Description
The fourth page (of five) from the "Basic Training" tutorial I did for WIZARD magazine, back in the halcyon year of 1997... This part's from the "speed line" section, featuring Gen13's Roxy beating the snot outta Grunge. Time was very, very short on this feature, with no time for inking, so I did this "story" solely in pencils.Much thanks to "Megasad"/ Simon B. for the scan, as I no longer possess a copy of the issue in question...

I still have that issue somewhere. Came in very handy when I was in college. I've been a fan of your style since I picked up a Bubblegum Crisis in the early 90's.

soeed lines are a hard thing to do, do you use any kind of rulers in order to do the speed lines?

Oh, yes. Specifically, a triangle with a raised inking edge, and a French curve, likewise with a raised inking edge. For lines that have a vanishing point very, very far off the page, I use a 36" steel ruler, braced against the junction where my lamp's base clamps onto the top of my drafting table.

That's GREAT! I used to love this one when it published! It really did help me grasp the concept behind speed lines. This brings back a lot of memories.
