Description
I know several people would be pissed off by that one, but I have to address this. With these 24 years of having awesome content from the Archie comics (well, before the mandates and the reboot stroke), and with them amazing characters thanks to Penders, Chibi Jen and Flynn (yeah, I like both Penders and Flynn), I think it's more than time we get these characters into the games. Now don't get me wrong, I know Archie =/= SegaSonic, but they could retcon the backstories to introduce them in the games rather than forcing them into the games' universe.Seriously, wouldn't it be great to have Mammoth Mogul, Dr. Finitevus, the Destructix, the Hooligans, goddamn Enerjak as villains other than Eggman in the games?

I agree they really should get their own game title canon, The freedom fighters and the other characters deserve it after so many years of development and such, I'm getting bored of seeing the same damn thing everytime, that's why we have fanmade games right now

Sally comes first, Amy comes second, years of great comics after the SATAM series comes in, and the games start to blow, SO WHY THE HELL IS SEGA SO AGAINST THE SONIC/ARCHIE CHARACTERS?

YES...and no. SEGA has pushed aside the Archie/Sonicverse, focusing on their universe. However, their universe is either filled with famous characters that are playable or Egg-themed robots following the same orders given in every game, no originality and character development, just eggs and characters without a reason to exist except to say "HEY, WE EXIST SONIC, EXPLORE OUR WORLD/ADVENTURE/TREEHOUSE" or some shit.
SATAM/Archie characters had main characters that were OK not to think of as playable, and it also had heroes ANYONE would want to play as. The Freedom Fighters were Sonic's main hero group, with members that had a set of skills we ALL wanted to use in a video game alongside Sonic. Plus, Robotnik was actually an enemy to take seriously, he conquered the world, turns Mobians into Robians, and the Freedom Fighters BARELY escape him with their lives every mission. The other villains also provided more challenges for Sonic and co., and that was a MUST since one enemy every game can be pretty boring.
But ignoring that world, making Amy look like top banana, making Robotnik into "Eggman", bringing the Chaotix back WITHOUT Mighty, Hedgehog clones, replacing Knuckles with Shadow, BIG THE CAT?! SEGA stole a romantic couple and changed it to THEIR perspective until killing off the realism of love and temptation and replacing it with the usual stupid and predictable emotions/expressions from their cast. "HEY, I'M SMILING BECAUSE THE BADMAN'S AT IT AGAIN. CHUCKLE I'M GONNA WIN AGAIN!" That's Sonic now, that's a hedgehog that HASN'T run into anything different like in Archieverse and did the same God-Damn thing because SEGA and fans since the Adventure games wanted it. I will curse their name and their stupid choices forever!

Hi, I'm back. Are you saying Sonic Adventure is what ruined the franchise? I thought people liked it and it's sequel.Β

There would be no way for Penders characters to be used without Penders being a control free on how they are to be used.

Not just Archie (and even some of the reboot ones), but also Fleetway, X (not counting Chris), Underground, IDW, SatAM, and select characters from other universes (Boom, Martin Adams, Manga, etc.) as well. This needs to be a thing. Sonic Revolution provides a good example.

Well, I used Archie as I just don't know much of the other spin-offs at the exception of Sonic X (and I'm pretty sure we could do something interesting with Chris). But yeah, using the characters from the spin-offs will provide more creativity and not force Sega to create yet another one-shot "brand new character". Also, I don't want to put IDW in the list yet, but that's me who lost my faith in Flynn long ago (and I'll post a Journal about it soon, but with my crappy internet it's tough)

I grew up with the Archie comics and as much as I love them and the characters, I'd have to say no. One of the biggest criticisms of the Sonic games is that they already have too many characters and that Sega doesn't know what to do with them. Adding even more characters, especially THIS MANY, would just make the problem worse.
And that's assuming they can even use any of them, as copyright for these characters is a complicated issue (as the Penders lawsuit shows).
Personally, I'm okay with games, comics, and various other adaptations being treated as different universes, or even completely different properties, each with their own original characters and their own unique take on per-existing characters.

Well, I feel like the "shitty fwiends" argument has only been brought up cause it's Sonic. I mean, if you take games like Zelda, Star Fox, Mario, Crash and all that jazz, all of them have numerous characters, especially Mario, but none of them are despised due to the number of characters. That argument is fallacy, in fact.
As for the Archie characters, adding them progressively to the roster, but not all of them, would be a good way to have more interesting characters, but not creating them from scratch since they already belong to the Sonic IP.
For the Penders lawsuit, I think now Archie won against Fulop, I think they can find an agreement with Penders now.

I would really like to see Archie characters in the games (mainly the villains cause the games need more good villains), though I see a lot of people suggest/request that the Archie characters be put in the games I hardly see anyone suggest "how" to put them in the games, do they want the games to reboot to include said characters or incorporate them in the current canon and if so how?

Well, I have plans to introduce several of them in one of my projects, so I won't spoil for them, though I have several ideas for the rest.
Like, Sally could be not the Princess of Acorn (or at least we wouldn't know it at first) and a genius hacker, whose path crosses Sonic's one as he has to break into one of Eggman's bases. Sally lends a hand by disabling the security cameras, and joins Sonic in his current mission.
For Nicole, I'd keep the sentient computer backstory, though I'd change it as she could be one of Eggman's creations that somehow gained self-awareness and consciousness and rebelled against her creator. She meets with Sally, became best buds with her, and so on and so forth.
Though I don't have ideas for all the characters atm, I think kinda retconning their backstories in order to fit the games' universe and not forcing the Archie universe at once would be a great way to introduce them by kinda not adding too many characters in the canon (since they already belong to the Sonic IP)

oh okay those sound like some good ideas, I guess you could introduce the other freedom fighters as friends of Sally, or maybe you could say that Rotor is one of Tails' Tech buddies or something that he met online. I guess you could introduce Naugus the same way he did in the show where he's wizard who Eggman banishes to the Void (or I guess in this case the Special Zone) and escapes wanting revenge. You could also say that Mammoth Mogul could be a crime boss who's been working behind the scenes (with the Destructix being his minions).Β Dr. Finitevus and Enerjak could be like villains in a Knuckles spin off game (or at leastΒ a game with him as a focus), You could probably introduce Finitevus the same way they introduced Zachary in the British comics where he's a mysterious old echidna man who uses the fact that he's an echidna to trick Knuckles so that he could steal power from the Master Emerald, Enerjak could probably one of those villains that was sealed away but gets freed and you have to go into super form to beat him (hey that's actually quite fitting for an adventure era final boss). the hooligans shouldn't be hard since those characters were already introduced in the games they just have to be reintroduced as a group probably hired by Eggman to dispose of Sonic.

Can't say much about Enerjak and Finitevus as I already have awesome ideas I don't want to spoil. As for Rotor, yeah, having him corresponding with Tails about tech stuff could be cool. And for Antoine, having him being either a lone French swordsman or a merc might be interesting. Can't say anything for Bunnie too... But yeah, the possibilities to introduce the Archie characters to the games' universe are pretty much endless, but Sega doesn't realize that cause they have that stupid creator's pride

yeah, you know I feel like the game Jak 2 would be what a Satam/pre reboot archie game would be like. Yeah you could incorporate the satam/archie characters into the current game canon but if they do decide to put the characters into the games I would prefer it if they made a reboot first that resembled the Satam world (that also incorporated elements of other canons like the games and fleetway comics and maybe even aosth and underground), since the games canon is a bit inconsistent with it's world.

AdventurousAdvocate In reply to JorDanGo [2017-09-17 16:57:31 +0000 UTC]
Well, a SatAM/pre-SGW Archie game would indeed be the best thing ever, though I don't think the actual games canon needs to be rebooted in order to fit this Archie vibe. I mean, sure the games haven't been consistant with each other for the last decade, but placing games in between could at least rectify that (though I'd be more the "let's erase the Colors era from the timeline once and for all"-type of guy). I mean, with Forces having a more serious vibe, if there is at least 2 games with the same vibes after that, we could soft-merge the Archie lore to the game universe. Or we could at least have a spin-off Archie game (and we sure deserve it)
π: 0 β©: 1
JorDanGo In reply to AdventurousAdvocate [2017-09-17 17:12:24 +0000 UTC]
yeah I don't deny that you could incorporate them into the game canon it's just a reboot would be easier, funny that you mentioned Forces cause people have compared it to satam due to Eggman ruling the world, so I think it should be easy to incorperate the satam/archie characters into the games if they keep Eggman as ruler of the world for future games (though it's most likely it'll be a one game thing) and I do have this theory that Forces will be transitional game for a new era of Sonic kind of like how Unleashed was a transitional game from the adventure era to the colors era.

The Hooligans are actually from the games. Technically, so is Dr. Finitevus, or atleast Wechnia is, which is what he's based on.

Considering they are from the games, there's a good chance we'll see them return in some way. Just look at Honey. As for most of the other Archie cast, they legally can't be used considering Archie's piss-poor ability to keep up with the legal mess. The rights to them were literally lost. Aside from the American cartoon cast, the game characters, and Flynn's cteations, they don't know who owns who.
