Description
Colour pencil drawing is all about layers. The base layer is for establishing a gradient from the highlights to midtones to shadows, and for influencing the saturation and hue of the colours you put on top. The second layer is for adding texture by controlling your pencil strokes and blending. The third layer is for adding darker colours to increase contrast, and to add finer detail, or smooth out and soften areas. Texture and detail sets realistic drawing apart from other styles, not colour. You don't need many pencils - I only used 5 pencils for 90% of this drawing.
In my class, I do three drawings to demonstrate freehand sketching, shading and using colour pencils. I also talk about how to approach drawing long term, deal with failure and practice to improve. I give you ways to identify your weaknesses and good practice exercises so you can improve them.

I spent three months writing, filming and editing my class because I wanted it to be as helpful and clear as possible.
