Mu Arae d/ Rocinante
Description
Mu Arae d; now known as Rocinante (as of December 2015 via the NameExoWorlds Contest) is a warm jupiter type planet orbiting the sun-like star, Mu Arae; now known as Cervantes (also via the Name ExoWorlds Contest) about 50 light years away in the constellation of Ara. It is the third planet discovered in this system after the further out b and inner c planets.
Rocinante has a minimum mass just over 1/2 the mass of jupiter which was determined via the radial velocity method, which is also the method used to confirm the planet's existance. The planet's radius is not known though, due to it not transiting it's star as seen from Earth and as such, its density is also unknown, but it can be assumed to be close to that of jupiter due to interior models of gas giants. Due to it's high mass, it can be assumed that the planet is also accompanied by a group of orbiting moons.
Rocinante orbits its star just within the inner edge of the empirical habitable zone. While it is highly unlikely that the planet itself would support life, any large moons in orbit with sufficient atmospheric pressure may have liquid water on their surfaces and may be conducive to life. However, because Cervantes is a more highly evolved star, with an expanding habitable zone, the moons of this planet would be bathed in high energy radiation and be stripped of most if not all of any atmosphere they may have had, leaving them as bare and barren wastelands.

Thank you.
Inspiring images.
I'm collecting data for 'Erewhon', the hypothetical mega-moon of tau Ceti 'f'. It's just inside the habitable zone, had warm anaerobic atmosphere and seas thanks to CO2 greenhouse and tidal stirring. Then a terraforming project went horribly wrong. The 'blue-green' cyanobacteria etc from Jurassic Earth that those aliens seeded ate enough CO2 to wreck the greenhouse, made a miniature 'Snowball Earth' ...
