Description
"Somber Dawn"
Deinonychus antirrhopus. An acrylic painting I did of a pair of Deinonychus watching an unseen dying animal, waiting for its inevitable demise.
This was directly inspired by a painting of William Silvers I like of a pair of vultures in a tree. I have always wanted to depict dromaeosaurids perched in trees as their claws seem quite well adapted to clambering onto trees. Last time I portrayed this was earlier this year with my Dakotaraptor pair resting on a fallen redwood in a spooky Hell Creek forest.
I originally wanted to add some tendrils of foliage from the branches of the leaves but decided to keep them bare as I liked the grasping branches look.
I’m currently working on an Alamosaurus and Tyrannosaurus standoff painting which I’m pretty excited to complete before the start of my semester.
Completed in early August 2018.
Done using acrylics and color pencils.

I do like the mood - somber as said
You put your acrylics and pencils to good use - especially the transition of different blue tints. The background with the dark blue shades hint at other vegetation appearing as thew sun rises.
