Description
"Tyrant Kick"Tyrannosaurus rex. An airbrush painting of my Tyrannosaurus, Helushka, kicking another Tyrannosaurus in the face. Taken from chapter of 10 of "Tyrannosaurid Paleobiology", where it is shown that some of the scars seen on the faces of Tyrannosaurs are delivered by pedal claws rather than their teeth.
Completed on the 27th of August 2013.
Done using acrylics and water-soluble color pencils.

I like this because people tend to forget that predatory theropods are likely to have used their pedal claws as weapons. Their sharp-tipped claws look like they could do more than just create friction during walking and running, they look like they could puncture skin, flesh, and, evident from the Tyrannosaurus specimens with pedal claw pathologies, even bone. The pointed shape of the pedal claws is evident from the very shape of the bone cores and footprint impressions (theropod footprints that haven't been ruined by taphonomy show impressions of sharp-tipped claws at the ends of the digits, and IIRC, this is one of the ways people tell that a dinosaur footprint was from a predatory theropod). I mean, they weren't the proportionally huge, wickedly-curved talons of eagles, but at the same time they were far from being the really short, clearly blunt hooves of say, iguanodonts, and it kind of irks me whenever people restore them that way.
