does 26G wire weave in and out of small spaces easily? and does that particular brand (Artistic Wire, silver plated) of wire hammer well? Because it is plated I worry about hammering it.

Hm, if you're worried about hammering plated wire, especially lighter gauges, I would suggest maybe trying a plastic mallet. Dead soft wire only, of course.
And 26ga is fairly decent for small spaces, although I'm a nut who loves 32ga. Which can easily break, but is so gorgeous if successful.

I use the same brand of wire that your using in the picture. to get that small a gauge I will have to order it. Hobby Lobbby doesn't go that small . And would a rubber mallet work. I have only been working with wire for the past couple of months. I've made about 20 pendants. I'm fairly new at this. Thanks for the help.

OH, well, I use solid Argentium when I want 32ga. Honestly don't know about Artistic in that gauge.
Rubber mallet really would only work for really light gauges, if you want to hammer them. Otherwise, chasing hammer. If you're nervous about the plating wearing off, try silver filled wire?

Hm, this was actually the prototype tutorial. I would love to eventually make a full one, DVD video and everything. It's in the plans, but not right now.
I'm unfortunately not really available enough at the moment to format it for print - but I have no objection if you would like to slice up the image yourself and print it!
I'm glad you like it, anyhow.

This tutorial is truly fabulous! I have absolutely no wire-wrapping experience whatsoever, but you managed to guide me clearly through EVERY step--good job Faith! And thanks a lot too! Although it took me double the time (12 hours-ish), I'm still so proud of myself!
Thanks again and I'll try to post a picture or two on Deviantart!

Not yet, but I intend to. I've hardly ever used wire before, you see, and I'm wondering how hard it is to bend it the way you want. Do you have to use much force?
My main problem though is where to find the stone. Where did you get yours? Do you think that I can buy one from a jeweler's shop?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AMyriadVice In reply to ThePathOfDreams [2012-08-05 10:28:50 +0000 UTC]
oh, dead soft wire is usually fairly easy to bend - half hard or full hard are much less friendly. Certain metals are harder, of course.
If you need supplies, I've recently started my own supplying store: [link] - and I've striven to keep shipping rates Low, and prices very competitive. I have a lot of cabochons I've yet to list, however, just been so ridiculously busy. XD

ThePathOfDreams In reply to AMyriadVice [2012-08-06 11:01:27 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! Is silver particularly hard? (I love silver)
I have to admit that it looks very wallet-friendly XD I was afraid that they would be much more expensive. I especially want that "Full Flashy Pear Labradorite Cabochon" So beautiful... I'm sure your store will go very well!
However, I don't have a credit card yet, so I can't buy anything online... I guess I should compromise with the local bead shop, but I doubt I'll find anything...

Nah, silver, even silver filled, is quite soft. I get them all in dead soft.
Hm. If you want, I might be able to work in an alternate payment method for you, like a bank transfer, maybe. Let me know.

your jewelry is really beautiful and after I saw this tutorial I really wanted to try something like this....but just where do you get all these materials from??
It must be quite expensive..do you have your own shop or is making jewelry a hobby?
....sry for asking all these questions out of the blue, but I'm really curious

AMyriadVice In reply to hummingbird005 [2012-06-18 12:53:48 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! Mm, I do have a supply shop here: [link] I've put quite a lot of effort into being affordable, both in shipping and in prices, though there is still a limit to which I can lower my prices, of course.
I also do sell my jewellery work, yes. Some may be found here: [link] Something between work and hobby, I guess!
Oh, no problem. Ask away!

your supplies really are cheap...maybe I'll buy some, should I come to enjoy wire wrapping.....I will have to try it out first
They are all quite beautiful, I like the light blue ones the best though
I wish I had a hobby I could make money with...that thought just seems so convenient >.>

Convenient! Haha, well, if art is your life, I guess it's convenient if it sells. XD But it's a fairly long road to get there, usually.

mm, I am slowly working on a video course for wire... don't have much time right now, but when I get it Done, it should be fairly instructive and help beginners wrap irregular or regular shapes into neat pendants.
Thanks!
