Description Created for Digital-Art-Fantasy Group's 'Magical Character' Contest. Didn't win, but I did receive an Honorable Mention, which is still great for me.

The tengu are a race of supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore and literature. According to mythical accounts, they either appear human with unusually long noses or as beings with both human and avian characteristics. I stuck with the latter as it was simply more fun to draw than a man with a long nose.

According to legend, their king Sojobo taught the warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune the arts of swordsmanship, tactics, and magic in the 12th century. This legend inspired me to give this particular tengu more of a wandering samurai quality to him.

I really like this piece, the pose feels noble truly evoking a samurai. If I had one crit Id say the feet need to be bigger for him to balance upon. They look rather tiny in proportion to his body to me.
