I love Alaska. We went there in 2001 for about three weeks. It was fantastic.

At first I thought it was a digital hack-together, and was about to complain about the lighting... j/k.
More seriously...
Impressive. Beautiful exposure.

Excellent picture, but can you explain the shutter speed for me? 913/10 seconds? I was under the impression that d70 cannot take anything longer than 30sec? How did you actually do this?

The d70, just like most other SLR cameras, has a bulb setting in manual mode, which allows you to take exposures for as long as you want. I was using my wireless remote control to open and close the shutter.

OK. I was under the impression that was not possible due to the hardware/processor issues and that shutter speed was limited to 30 seconds in that case. I think I'll have to give this a try now, most definitely. Love the camera though... some minor issues... but love it overall.
How cold was it while you were up in Alaska? Any issues?

awesome capture
the colours are so unearthly
I really like how you composed this, somehow juxtaposing the mountains and the "wavefront" of light.
well done, and congrats on the DD (have fun attacking your message centre )

Truly beautiful. Haven't seen Northern Lights in a while (yeah, I get them rarely here). So amazing, Nature knows how to impress. . .

I've only seen the northern lights once in person, and it wasn't anything like you caught here. Just amazing color. Gotta love everything in this pic, it's almost surreal. Definately worth a fave.
