The Product Development Group discovered that the Terrans possessed an iron-rich liquid circulatory system. Half the small, winged species in the galaxy subsisted on a diet of such liquid, usually sucked from larger prey via various proboscis-like appendages. Galactic laws forbade the sale of sentient species bodily fluids for nutrient value as part of a larger set of laws intended to outlaw the consumption of sentient species. Yet the PDG knew of a loophole in the law that they could exploit mercilessly.

Clones of sentient species that were grown without higher brain functions were not technically considered sentient thanks to one of the more obscure and vaguely-written clauses in the law. What passed as "higher brain functions" was open to considerable debate however. In certain areas beings that did not possess multiple brain systems were considered to not have higher brain functions. Thus certain less than scrupulous beings were more than willing to purchase large batches of cloned female Terrans and label them as "non-sentient nutrition sources".

The clones were regularly drained of some of their circulatory liquid, leaving enough for them to be alive and able to produce a new batch of fluid later on. The fluid was put up for sale on the galactic grey market and quickly became very popular. Labelled under various names, the precious fluid made excellent profits for the Empire.

In time a small chain of restaurants were set up that specialized in Terran Blood Feasts. Terran clones were tied down to platters and served to swarms of beings, who landed on their naked flesh and drank their fill. Most restaurant owners were scrupulous enough to make sure their food sources were left with enough circulatory fluid to stay alive, but there were always lurid stories of proprietors who were negligent in that area.

Years later, when humanity started to spread out into the galaxy they were appalled to discover these restaurants. Galactic civilization was very diverse and strange however. These were only one of the many bizarre and odd things they encountered as the rose up through the echelons of galactic society ...
