Description
A 'repaint' I did using Instructions for TF: UNIVERSE Soundwave I scanned myself from the copy of the instructions that came with the toy.MW/TFU Soundwave the way he SHOULD have been.
Ok, lets get something straight. There are just certain TF molds that are special to me, and TFU Soundwave/MW Soundwave is one of those molds. I’ve had the MW version for a long time and LOVED it. I thought the mold itself was an awesome, and appropriate homage to the baddest Decepticon of them all, Soundwave. Only his colors were waaaaaaaaay off. They looked good, don’t get me wrong, they just…weren’t Soundwave-esque. Then, when they were going to re-release the mold in TFU as Soundwave again, I had my hopes all up for an actual SOUNDWAVE looking version of the toy. When preview pics came out…well…it was interesting. It looked like they captured the deep, purply blue and grey rather well, but the addition of the neon yellow…it just made the toy seem off. But hell, I love the mold, in all it’s brick-y glory, and it WAS pretty close to Soundwave, so what the hell, I’m all for it. Then I buy the thing. Man, were those preview colors OFF on the finished product. It wasn’t a deep, purply blue, it was a dark, neon purple. And the neon yellow became a pukey pale, neon yellow. The toy just looked gaudy. Like a bootleg. Hell, even the worst of G2 wasn’t THIS bad. Now don’t get me wrong, I still love the toy, and would have gladly paid the $20 I spent on it, even WITHOUT the addition of the cyberjet Spacecase, but this just WASN’T the homage I wanted or was expecting. So I finally scanned my instructions and gave the MW/TFU Soundwave mold the colors he deserved and should have gotten in the first place. Does he not look better in BOTH modes then ANY previous incarnation of this mold? (Including G2 Stalker). See, it’s things like this that made TFU, a line with literally, ALL the promise in the world, (as they had the freedom to pick ANY and THE BEST molds from all past lines, give them ANY and THE BEST repaints they wanted, and make some easy profit) tank so badly, so quickly. And decisions like the recent TFU Downshift only drive the point further. They blew it. Royally. *Sighs* As I’ve said before, you’re welcome to any and every one of my repaint ideas Hasbro, free of charge. Please stop the awful repaints…for the children…

Wow! I never realized just how Soundwavey this figure could look. I have MW Sounders, and while I never really thought of it as a Soundwave- I agree witcha that this is a cool figure. Actually, I was pretty fond of most of the Machine Wars line.... I guess I was pretty starved for vehicle TFs at that time.

Hey, I dunno why but there's something spiffy-special about the MW line/molds to me too. Me on the other hand, from the start I saw the Soundwave in this figure. The molding just screams him. Glad ya like it though

Yes... Very nice this repaint. A thousand times better than the botched crud-colors-in-a-box they put for the Universe release of Soundwave. And so many paint aps! But you hate putting paint aps on your repaints. What happened? Just went crazy because he's one of your fave characters on a fave mold or is the mold that bland-looking without them?

I didn't think he actually had THAT many paint apps. I pretty much stuck with the same paint app layout that the TFU one used, only altered a few of the minor head ones to mirror G1 soundwave a little better, and replaced the few small chest ones with the largish one tto simulate his "opening chest." Oh, and painted the fists, but since i left out the forearm paint apps, i figured it was a fair trade. And removed the biohazard symbol from his...round...thing. And added his waist apps... Still though, I don't think i went TO heavy on the paint apps with this guy, and don't think it would really be unreasonable in a real production. (just look at how much of Eng Slugslinger's vehicle mode is covered in paint apps...like, 82%....or something...)
(Now that you mention it, I think i forgot to add one of the paint apps I wanted to, coloring the treads in...grr...stupid me...)
And I just did it because the mold has so many features and molding that COULD have mirrored g1 Soundwave so well, they were just never taken advantage of by either of the "soundwave"s using the mold...a shame...

Now THAT, I would have bought, dude. Very nice work on this. Also love the little stamp there. To differentiate between those who copy your style?

Thanks. If Hasbro would have made some decisions like this, they probably would have sold enough toys to keep the line going. Bastards.
And yeah, the symbol is partially because I wanted to add a "signature" to my work. I never intended it to be to difirentiate my work from anyone elses, but now that I think of it, I do kinda like that idea too. BUT the primary purpose is and was, to hopefully hinder people that were actually taking my pieces and altering and repainting them, (without asking permission, not that I would have given it even then) and posting them in a number of different places (Like the allspark).
And thanks for the faves
