So here's how I made the hand for all those who asked. And here's the finished product in motion
[link]
mistake caught! it's actually 52 eye bolts!
edit*
and for all those who will or have asked. It cost me under $50 Canadian to build. I don't know what it would cost in American as I don't live there, have the same stores, or really care. but you can just use google to convert the currency and give yourself a ballpark figure.

Thank you, thank you thank you for putting up a tutorial of your steampunk hand.
I've been looking everywhere for a good hand-tutorial to use for a costume I'm working on and after seeing your hand in motion, I was dying to find the tutorial.
Basically my mind went like this:
"-sees hand moving-
-sees link to tutorial in description-
"
So thank you, thank you thank you :'D

If you think about it, this can be used to help amputees, I'm sure the same principle can apply to tendons if they can locate and attach them.
I actually thought something like this would be really cool to do, but I didn't think it would actually be possible, nicely done!

I wanted to make one that's why and I just needed a couple of things clarified...
So, I was looking at the design, and i was wondering waht kind of glove did you use?
and where did you get the metak the lined the arm?
how did you work it?

aternox In reply to w00t--kita [2009-12-15 06:26:34 +0000 UTC]
the glove and metal were both from the hardware store, the glove was a roofer's glove and the metal was. side plating or something? in the house siding section. then i used pliers and tin snips to shape it.

Thanx for the info...

just wondering here, how much did the thing cost overall and what kind of screws did you use?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
aternox In reply to w00t--kita [2009-12-15 20:54:14 +0000 UTC]
roughly $50 CAD, the screws in the hinges were what came with them and the ones through the gloves were 3/4" wood screws
