UB – 00: B L A C K...

An encrypted document pulled from the Aether Foundation files on Faba’s personal computer. A jet black, highly aggressive, crystalline lifeform that is seemingly able to open its own Ultra Wormholes at will in order to traverse time and space. A creature such as this would be a marvel of science if not for how foreboding new information on this illusive creature always seemed to be. First came Phyco, nearly a year ago now, talking of a great beast they were hunting, and how the Ultra Wormhole activity may inevitably draw the creature here. They came bearing gifts, the two Poipole eggs in exchange for information on the creature, though after our discussion with the detective and now having seen this file, I have a bad feeling welling up in my gut.

Firstly, Phyco and his assistant Soliera appear to have made contact with the Aether Foundation in the past, requesting the same information they asked of us. Another team of individuals by the names Dulse and Zossie appear to have also been in contact with Faba and Lusamine on multiple occassions. Both parties mentioned the importance of finding this creature, which they have called Necrozma, this is the first time we have heard this name used. Both teams expressed some importance between it and some being known as “The Blinding One”, perhaps some religious significance to their people? Faba seemed to be skeptical of them at best, keeping his later findings from them all together, specifically the location of a Necrozma corpse. Found during the excavation of Mount Lanakila during the construction of the Alolan Pokémon League’s official colosseum, the Aether Foundation used their good will to obtain the remains of a strange Pokémon found buried within the stone.

A message came through from the away team located at the Altar of the Sunne, a wormhole had been punched in the sky before communications, and the entire facility had gone dark. Prior scans of Faba’s documents uncovered several viruses and malicious Porygon Programs meant to dismantle non-native operating systems were safely removed and disposed of, so what was the culprit? The answer soon became apparent as a loud sheering sound filled the main office; the power had died but a pilar of pure energy streaked through the ceiling. An Ultra beast? No this was too planned out, soon we would all see that heading the assault was Phyco, who’s form was overshadowed by some great winged beast. Before us could see past its silhouette a flash of light recalled it into a Beast Ball all their own. The researchers and myself were quickly restrained as they moved onto their main target, Cosmom, who has remained mostly inactive since it’s metamorphosis. Placing Cosmoem in a similar containment device to the one it was originally found within, the massive weight of its psychic force seemed to be instantaneously nullified.

Phyco moved to contact his team, ignoring the rest of us, he activated a communication device similar to the Holo Caster, a device from Kalos, however the resolution was clear enough for those of us on the opposite side of the room to see clearly. A young woman on the other side of the call answered, reporting success on their side as well, the research team could be seen behind her, subdued just as the rest of us had been. The video feed pulsed for a moment, a new wormhole opening above them, they all looked back in awe. There it was, clawing its way through the wormhole its pitch-black body dropping to the Altar grounds. “Be calm great one, your pain will be over soon!” she could be heard saying, indeed its movements were staggered, like its body was collapsing in on itself, it shambled its quaking body as though it was on the prowl. It paced shakily from a distance, the piercing sound of crystal pressing tight against crystal; its sights clearly set on the woman before it, scraping its claws against the stonework. The crystals jutting from its massive forearms glowed as it appeared to take in light, for a moment its movements were fluid, no longer staggered before letting the energy loose, blowing all of those around it back, cutting the footage.

I had an idea, a horrible idea... While they were distracted by the call, several of my colleagues rushed Phyco in an attempt to wrestle away the containment device housing Cosmoem, however his team quickly overpowered them once again, but it was enough of a distraction to get me out of sight. I quickly made my way to the secure containment pod, sure enough the magnetic lock had died without the power active. I grabbed the contents and without wasting a second ran back, returning to the main lab. If they are going to try and attack us and take away Cosmoem, it was scared and alone before and I will be damned if I am going to let them do anything horrible to it again! I shouted out to them, and as they turned, I went against my better judgement and released the Beast Ball housing UB – 09, Blacephalon...

Let’s hope keeping this thing on site was a good idea!

Faba Xeno-Biology Autopsy Report:

UB – 00: B L A C K, henceforth referred to as Necrozma is a crystalline Ultra Beast, with no signs of respiratory or circulatory systems contained within its crystal body. Based on information given by the Recon Squad, it feeds on light, several patches of unique crystal appear to have grown within the body, however with such an alien biology it is currently impossible to discern the purpose of each organ individually. Examination of the surface appear to show a “Patina” of sorts forms on the exterior of the body over time, possibly a biproduct of malnutrition in its species. Its body is segmented and none of the limbs are attached to the main body, however, heavy wear shows on the ends of each separate piece, similar to the bone wear seen in elderly individuals. Located almost haphazardly placed at the front of the body, appears to be what equates to the creatures' brain, a large quartz-like crystal which once again remains separate from the body itself.

From the available information the creature appears to be able to “control light”, If true this is an astounding use of psionic power! While several species demonstrate specialized psycho kinesis, such as Pyro-kinesis and Cryo-kinesis, roughly manipulating the fundamental forces of the universe to have sway over molecules and energies. Photo-Kinesis is beyond absurd; however, I have a theory. Perhaps, when the creature is in its prime its body functions like that of a star, its psychic power functioning as a stand-in for gravitational pull while push of so many compressed photons attempting to escape acts as the nuclear processes at a star’s core, endlessly trying to escape its grasp. Once the creature is starved or perhaps even damaged and loses that outward force, its body is crushed under the immense pressure of its own psychic abilities. This psionic crunch, would explain the wear and heavy stress marks and the fact its body appeared to be almost mangled when discovered.

Though a question remains unanswered, if it truly fed only on light, and existed within the void of space, why would evolution drive it to have such a terrestrial form? Arms and legs are of course useful under the effect of gravity, but completely useless within the vacuum of space. If it was capable of traversing both the gravity well of a planet and returning to space, something must have driven it to function in both environments, perhaps an unknown prey species? Truly these “Ultra Beasts” are terrifyingly powerful creatures, all the more reason to finish Project Beast Killer...
