Description

Hassan-i Sabbāh, the man who founded the actual historical Assassins in real life during the First Crusade. Historically, he founded the order sometime around the 1090s after capturing the fortress in the city of Alamut. A well-liked man in his homeland, he and the Assassins defended the Middle Eastern people from the crusaders, knights, and eventually, Templars, that sought to claim the lands for themselves during the crusades. He died on June 12, 1124. The Assassins continued on until about 1257, when they were historically disbanded and destroyed by the Mongol invaders.

In the AC games, they depict Hassan-i Sabbāh as one of the brotherhood’s mentors who decided to bring the Levantine sect of the Assassins into public light, acting more as a governing organization than a secret society of protectors, as an experiment. Once Altaïr became mentor in 1191, he worked to reduce the Assassins’ public pedestal that Sabbāh had built for them. As happened in history, the Mongols fully destroyed their public front around 1257. Except this time, the Assassins only went underground, back to secrecy.
