Description
After the Assassins helped the people of Rome topple the Regime, they created the Roman Republic, intending it to be a system where everyone was able to contribute and decide on issues freely and fairly. However, this was short lived when the Templars wormed their way into the system and corrupted it beyond measure. They established a Senate, where only certain officials (usually Templar agents) were able to control the city. Under their rule, they took freedom not just from their own people, but from the Celtic tribes surrounding Rome as well. The Templars continued the conquest they had started long ago, either destroying the Celts or forcing them to abandon their cultures. When the Celts of Gaul, Britain, and Hispania fought back, they called for someone, anyone, to aid them in the war. The Assassins were the ones to answer that call.
The Assassins managed to do a fair amount of damage on the Templar territories at first. For example, a Celtic Assassin named Brennus led his men through Templar lands, liberating their people as they went. They even managed to take back the city of Rome for a short time after the Battle of the Allia on July 18, 390 BC. Unfortunately, a powerful Templar named Marcus Furius Camillus gathered an army soon after, killed Brennus and his Assassins, and took back Rome for the Templars.
In the 2nd century BC, Rome continued to expand its rule across the Mediterranean. Their only major opponents at this point were the people of Carthage, led by a man named Hannibal, and the remaining Celts. The Carthaginians were ultimately annihilated, but the Celts fought on. In 150 BC, the Roman commanders in Iberia massacred the tribes after the Assassins inspired them to rise up against the Roman Templars. In 147 BC, an Assassin named Viriatus took charge in the fight against Rome in Hispania. He led the Lusitanian people in a massively successful war, the Lusitanian War, against Rome. Unfortunately, three he was betrayed by three men, Audax, Ditalcus, and Minurus, who left the Assassins after being bribed by the Templars. These three men snuck up on Viriatus as he slept, and killed him. The Celts and Gauls continued the fight still, but the conflict became much more difficult to carry on.
Things got severely bad when the Roman emperor and Templar puppet, Julius Caesar, took charge of the Roman forces and expanded their conquest massively. Caesar was incredibly successful at conquering the lands that would soon become part of the Roman Empire. Anyone who stood in the way of his power grab, especially the Assassins, were slaughtered by his soldiers. Caesar extended his reach to the isles of Great Britain in 55 BC. The Assassins sought to preserve the Celtic culture and freedom of course, but unfortunately Caesar's forces proved to strong. While Britain and Ireland weren't fully conquered until after Caesar's reign, the Roman general still landed a massive blow to the Assassins and the people they protected. Thankfully though, thanks to the Assassins that worked their way deep into the heart of the Roman Republic, Caesar wouldn't be a threat for much longer...

William Wallace doesn't come in until centuries after this time frame. I'll put him in one of these when his time comes.
