Description We were assigned to do a water themed picture in class so I chose the theme of climate change (NOT global warming, that is a defunct term and things are changing REGARDLESS of the source of the change) and something universal (a bird, which is on every continent and normally the first to appear on new pieces of land) representing everything is effected. But the ending doesn't have to be bad as old civilization has passed away (not in our time) and the bird (based on different species of kingfishers, just personal taste on that) enters a new world from out of the depths of the old.
Not trying to say anything, just took a theme and painted a picture based on it. I wanted to paint a bird, use my favorite color of blue which is fun to water down and since I watch too many B-movie flicks and live in Seattle thought it would be fun to paint the Space Needle sunken underwater (they always go for New York, NY or San Francisco, CA, stupid taxes in WA...) which would get flooded over time with climate change. So there's my reasoning.
Acrylic on canvas.

Wow, very nice! Quite interesting~

Is the bird based on Common+Belted Kingfisher?

Thanks! Good eye and very close, it's based on the Common, Belted and the Green Kingfisher with my own personal touches. Originally I was going to do just the Belted Kingfisher but I changed the theme a bit (the top was going to be a decaying city instead of an island) so I changed the color/species of the kingfisher to be green for color balance and have more color overall.

No prob!

Ahhh I was actually going to suggest Green, but something in me just said I should just stick with Belted Ah well.

Nice decision~ The end product looks very nice

Thanks Actually I've done more work on it and will be updating it later. Just added some line work to it since the island was rather bland compared to the water and highlights to the line work in the water. Though it is funny I was watching the movie Frozen while working on a tropical island lol (I play movies while I paint more often than just music).

Ah~ Cool okay Curious as to what it'll end up as~

I actually haven't seen Frozen just yet. Is it a great movie? I've heard it was quite nice.

I actually play movies in class quite often, but with the screen down XP When the teacher lets us listen to music, I instead turn on Doctor Who

Frozen is pretty good, it's different as far as what Disney normally does story wise. People are saying it's better than the Lion King and all that but it can't be better because it's a different kind of story (and I'm not going to compare CGI to hand drawn animation either).
The plot of Frozen is kind of experimental since it doesn't follow the classic hero's journey real tightly or any other kind of concrete story form people are used to like with the Lion King which follows the Hero's journey. So it's form is newish/mish-mash of other story types and for the most part it works, great music, animation is great, nice couple of plot twists at the end. Could of been better balanced, more foreshadowing but they were trying something new so I keep that in mind. I used to critique movies for my college paper until recently and I've been studying movies, plot, storylines etc for longer than that.

Ah awesome! I would do the same Still need to get into watching Doctor Who (still in the first season of the reboot on Netflix) and Star Trek and reading the Halo novels and the other 4 books I bought on my Ipad...and finish the book I'm writing but I got that planned for spring break at least.

Oh. Sounds interesting, I suppose. I might take a look at it sometime, even though to be frank, I've never been a fan of cartoony-fairy-taley things Give me documentaries about the brood parasitism of Diederik Cuckoos anyday..

Doctor Who! Haha I really need to start reading again. Haven't read a new book in ages. Only found time to get through the first few chapters of Moby Dick, at the point where the main character is still meeting his harpooner friend...

Yeah it's more geared toward Disney fans, kids and girls in general. Though from a film critic perspective it's interesting since it claimed the top spot in the box office in the US again after The 2nd Hobbit came out which is rare especially with such a big film like The Hobbit. But still I grew up watching mostly science fiction, documentaries and musicals, both classic and Disney, so they have a special spot for me. I'm just glad Disney finally made a decent animated film without relying on Pixar like they had the last 10+ years though Pixar has been going the sequel route

Ah Moby Dick, I still need to read that and more classics. I just recently started reading young adult fiction because of The Hunger Games otherwise since 7th grade I had been reading regular fiction, skipped the "teen" books phase. But I really want to read Don Quixote. It's was written in the 16th century and it's about a man who gets caught up in the fantasy of believing he's a knight and bringing back chivalry causing all sorts of trouble. What I read about it sounded funny and it was written 400 years ago and it considered one the greatest literary works of all time.

I've actually seen it just recently, and its very good! I liked the development of the characters of Elsa and Anna, as well as the sort of moral behind the character of Hans (a sort of reverse don't trust a book by its cover). It is, in all regards, a very nice movie, and I can understand why its been so popular

I actually haven't gotten through it yet- to be honest, I got kind of bored halfway through, and discarded it to read Sherlock Holmes (a very nice series). Have you read that series yet? If not, I recommend it.
Sounds quite interesting! o.o I'll see if my library has it.
