you can use whatever feels right.. they are all good, and most have same features this way or another.. specially when we have youtube this days and there are ton of educational materials out there on video, it doesn't matter much. also depends what you want to do - modeling, animation , vfx .. each of them have their highs and lows.
good luck

this is really cool. I like simple things, and the Tsuba is really traditional and simple.

Man this is awesome! The polygons are so small! It's so realistic. The sheath and stand in the BG are shiny and give away CGness but it's still the best katana ever. Very original hilt design. Reminds me of a shuriken. Definate favourate.

Very neat. The things that stood out to me are the stand, and sheath. I get a sense of plastic or.. shinnyness from them. Dono if you're going for that. specially with a very detailed/realistic look.
The helt is so detailed where the metal is cut out from the whole piece for the droplet/yinyang shape, it really pushes the 3d feel of the blade.
Thanks so much for sharing this work.

Very nice... after playing with 3D modeling a bit (actually did a katana variant to play with it) I can't imagine how long this took. of course physics is begging me to ask how the sword is staying ha-down
but eh... just the silliness in me.

Very nice render. I really like the detail in the modeling and the textures. The lighting is also very effective in showing those details. Nice composition in the scene. Looks real, maybe better than real.

i am a martial artist, and i am impressed. The biggest differece i noticed is in a traditional japanese blade the material on the handle was usually silk, or cloth and not leather, same with the cord on the sheath. art is awesome though.

B0R In reply to StraitArrowGraphix [2006-02-03 22:02:23 +0000 UTC]
thank you very much. im glad you liked. i know that material on the handle souldnt be leather, it was just a test,i made cloth for the real version.
btw, this image is a very old version.
if you liked this one you sould check the newer version on my galley, i would be happy if youll c&c on them, specialy Critique on the things that i missed.
(i never even held a sword in my life... but i looooooove blades)
thanks again, enjoy.

this is amazing at first glance i thought it was real, the seal on the sheath looks like the one on the cover of shogun by James Clavell but its probably from somewhere else
brilliant work
