Description
Note: I apologize in advance--if you full-view this, which I do highly recommend, you will find that it is a rather TREMENDOUSLY HUGE file. By huge I mean a resolution of about 1200x1200. So it might take a minute to load, and you'll probably have to scroll around to look at all the details.Anyway...
Yes! The long-awaited fur tutorial is here. It's not very thorough, I think, but...it was late when I created it and, sketchy though it may be, I think it gets the basic point across.
Keep in mind this is a tutorial based on Photoshop as the art program. I might try to make more later, for different programs.
Give it a try, and show me what you can make! And please do let me know if this tutorial helped you at all. ^_^

Thank you, I've been trying a technique similar to this without much success. You've explained it very well, so I'm sure I'll get better results this time.

Ehh the problem with my art program is that it's quite different from most other programs, but I still like it. It's just that I have to improvise a bit if I want to use the same techniques that work for other programs.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I used it to make my first wolf, though the fur isn't nearly as great as yours. Well, I am using a mouse, not a tablet...still, NO EXCUSE! XD I'll get better. Thanks again!

I'm using your method to touch up the fur on the werewolf in my gallery; I remember painstakingly trying to find a preferred method for making fur, but I ended up hating the end result. I'll let you know how well I accomplished the touch-up!
Thanks for posting this!

Okay, you've probably gotten this before, but will using the grey color as a base color work even if you want your wolf to be a very vivid color like bright, obnoxious red?

ArkkySan In reply to XxXjoannXxX [2009-03-06 15:48:34 +0000 UTC]
I think it could probably work with any color as long as you started with a medium color? I followed this tut and made my wolf (it's not very good), and he has red markings on his face. Basically I did the same thing as the tut, only I substituted the medium grey for a medium red.
Anyway, Thanks :ballistic-kitten:, great tut.
