Description
A species reference, with other stuff. O.oSo, I just learned about freeze-branding( [link] ), and it sounds interesting. I wonder if humans ever do it... I guess it'd work better on dark-skinned individuals, but there doesn't seem to be any reason you couldn't get a permanent white streak of hair like Rogue from the x-men.
Anyway, other stuff:
Lellians are extremely mammal-like; warm-blooded, furry, giving birth to one live offspring at a time, and females even have boobs. BUT, only when actually lactating, and more like a dog than a human(A species that spends that much time moving can't afford to carry around that extra weight for no reason).
I didn't bother making separate male and female references, because it's hard to tell the difference unless they're completely naked. Males have a slightly thicker face and usually a blunter nose, and some of the hair patterns are different. Again, Lequin is too extreme for a lot of sexual dimorphism.
Being a carnivorous pack-hunting species, they haven't domesticated many animals. That's changed recently with genetic engineering and the exotic pet market, but for the most part dog-like lyra are the main companion animal/pack-beast/lunch.
--
Had to resist making the lyra more alien, btw. The fossil record is full of dog-looking animals, and if you make a medium-sized ground carnivore and stick fur on it the effect is going to be another dog-like animal.
Don't believe me? [link] [link]
Imagine araripesuchus with fur and you've pretty much got a fox.

This is very cool, and the only question I have is how long is their lifespan?

Thanks~
They can live to be around 80 or 90, but their culture is so violent that they usually die before 40(although those that do make it to that point usually live a long life and die of more natural causes, mostly heart disease).
They have a lot of legal excuses to commit murder, for one thing.

Whoa man, that's hardcore! So when you say that their culture is violent, do you mean that it's just in their instincts or is it something they developed because of the environment?

Both; since they have to keep on the move almost constantly they can't settle into one place with good resources. That used to mean that sometimes the only way for a pack to survive was to raid someone else. The most successful raiding groups were the ones with the best teamwork. In other words, for millions of years the only individuals to breed were the ones that put the good of their pack over their own self-interests.
Also, they're extremely pack-oriented predators. Like a cat, they find killing things fun and sometimes that can bleed into their social interactions if someone behaves in a 'weak' manner.
Most of the population is fairly shy/passive and aren't much more likely to start a random fight than a human would be though. The problem is that their idea of a normal social group is what we would call a cult. A small percentage of the population is highly aggressive, domineering, and manipulative. They're the ones that commit most of the violence, and when they collect a pack(passive folk who tend to follow their charismatic leader with a scary level of devotion) they can form lynch mobs towards anyone that got on their bad side.
So, basically, their entire social system is almost identical to gang culture in major cities. Except that the 'gang leaders' have all the political power.
Medessians(a closely related species in the same genus) are only as violent as humans though. That's most likely because their society has always been a lot more stable(the distance they have to travel to stay in the daylight is much smaller, and they've had permanent settlements off and on for thousands of years.
Whew, that got long. Sorry.

That sounds like hell... but man, you can make a cartoon, a movie, a game or something out of this info! Personally, I wouldn't last around these guys, hahaha, but I can totally see it all in my head! Nicely put!

Luckily, they're hollow-boned and max out at around 130 lbs, so they rarely pick fights with other species unless they have numbers on their side. ^^
Thanks~

They sound more like wolves than any kind of feline, except lions, and they're like the only cats that live in packs, right? It's cool, at least in a pack someone's got your back! I should be thanking you!
