Hey, everyone!

I made this art piece years ago and just did a few tweaks to color here to repost in celebration of the Big D making its appearance again on the screen. This ship was always home for me as a kid and I have my best make-believe memories aboard her. I wanted to lend a "moonlit" quality to this one that felt serene and peaceful. I hope you enjoy!

STORY: The U.S.S. Enterprise chases after a massive and unusual "cometoid" cruising in a deep, dark region of space. What energy source inside is causing the out-gassing and the tail to be produced? Is this a natural phenomenon or an inhabited "world" or a vessel of some kind? Captain Picard intends to find out.

HOW MY ART IS MADE: All my art is made with physical models of the ships that I carefully photograph and then mask out the "carpal tunnel" way - painstakingly by hand - drawing shapes and tracing the ship out of its background photograph. Then, I light, modify, and composite them into my own photography or background NASA images that I have heavily altered (Here, in PowerPoint, I hand-drew windows, the signal lights, the engine lights, the comet and made the larger stars composited on a NASA nebula pic as I recall). All my art is done in this style as an homage to the traditional special effects of the great masters who made the TV shows before 3D animation came along! Note: I reuse each photographic element (ship) at least twice in different art pieces to honor the special effects masters who regularly reused model shots on the shows.
