That's okay if you don't like it! But I'm glad that you said that it's coming off "MARVEL" style because that's exactly what I was trying to do: retell Sailor Moon in a western, "marvel"/"dc" sort of way.

Yes! I wanted to play with the idea of making the senshi as what they would've been as "western modern day superheros", kind of like a senshi version of the Avengers .

Oh gosh not at all!! This comic certainly hasn't been abandoned; I'm just an extreme perfectionist and since this is the first time I've ever done a comic like this before, I've been working really hard researching and constantly redoing frames. Hopefully we'll have an update either this week or the next!

Though, supposedly, and I can't tell, Naru in the Japanese version DID have a different accent(Osakan, I think, not Tokyo), which may be why they did that, but, lol, it was sooo bad!

Serena's a pretty name, just didn't seem to fit Usagi. What bugged me was that her "civilian" name was Serena and then it was "Princess Serena" instead of "Serenity". That's what got me more than the name itself, actually.

But "Selene", definitely more mature and elegant.

Yes! I loved Naru's accent, partially because of their attempt to mimic her original Japanese one, and also I thought it was adorable. Endearingly awful, which makes it wonderful.

HAHA I remember even when I was 5 I was like "THEY TOTALLY CALLED HER PRINCESS SERENA FOR OUR BENEFIT" because even to me it made no sense that her past self would have the same name in a different lifetime. Then I figured, I guess it does make sense, because they are the same people, if they have different names that must mean they're different people, unless they're wearing some obvious colors to tell us otherwise (ie Sailor Zoisite, and even I was still fooled by that. I was like "THAT'S GOTTA BE SERENA, NO ONE ELSE COULD HAVE THE SAME COSTUME UNLESS THEY WERE A SAILOR SCOUT!").

I'm glad everyone likes "Selene".

I was actually a bit irritated with that accent at first(I was about 16-17 when I got into the dub), but when I later read about the Japanese version and how Naru had an accent(lol, which I still can't pick out!), then I realized why. Now it doesn't bother me, just makes me giggle.

Like the whole dub makes me giggle now. It's sorta cheezy, but I'll watch it now and again for nostalgia's sake and the lulz.

I couldn't get past the whole Serena/Princess Serena bit. Makes a bit more sense in the Japanese version when she's Usagi/Bunny, then is Serenity. It still fits in with the whole silly anime theme(which makes it all the more endearing to me, all the cute themes animes tend to slip in), but isn't so darn obvious.

lmao, oh lord, "Sailor Zoisite". I caught that right away. The eyes were different and the colors of her outfit were just sliiiiighly different. And she actually used a boomerang instead of the tiara for obvious reasons. And wasn't a total clutz or crybaby, lol.

I didn't know it was Zoi, but I knew something was off about her.

But I like "Selene", and I adoooore how you did her hair! It's still the buns, but the braids! Adorable!

I think at some point the Dub soured all of us LOL. Now that I'm older I love it just as nostalgic value and I love it as a separate entity than the original counterpart. In fact, I am a huge fan of Zoycite as well as Zoisite, and two me how they are portrayed are extremely differently.


LOL I think to the audiences in Japan it would've probably been just as obvious I think for her name to be "Usagi", since I think many of them know the myth of the Bunny on the moon. In know when I was little I heard that too (I'm Chinese-Canadian, there's a similar myth in Chinese) and as soon as I heard that her name was Bunny, my first thought was the Bunny on the moon and how painfully obvious it was LOL! Also I don't remember in the dub if they even remembered the Princess's name. They just called her "Princess" or "the Moon Princess", and at some point even thought Princess Diamond was the princess, so I don't think the names had ever crossed the character's minds at all.

I THOUGHT IT WAS SAILOR MOON GONE EVIL OR SOME OTHER SAILOR MOON OR SOMETHING LOL I'm not going to lie, I was a really dumb kid!!! I only stopped realizing it was Sailor Moon when Zoisite saved that construction worker in front of Usagi, and then I was like "OH OH MAYBE IT'S SAILOR VENUS" LOL.

I love Sailor Zoisite, it's just so ridiculous.


Thank you!! I figured realistically if she was in P.E class or doing other physical activity she wouldn't be allowed to keep her hair that long in a pigtail.

Oh lord, lol, yeah, it was bad compared to how well dubs are done nowadays, keeping the Japanese names and storylines, where with SM, they Americanized everything to hilarity.

Once I got into the Japanese version, I almost couldn't stomach the dub, but it's how I even got into SM and anime, so I'll dig up the tapes every now and then.

Zoi's still my favorite, female and male, although I tend to play the character as female more often than not out of old habit. I was well into my early 20s before I got ahold of any sub of the Japanese version. Most of my fics were dub-based, with snippets of whatever I could locate online about the Japanese version.

Interestingly enough, about Zoi and Japanese audiences, hubby dated a Japanese gal(long before he and I knew each other), who absolutely FREAKED when she saw the dub! She was a fan before it came out in the states and said something to the effect of: "What the shit is this?!" when she saw fem-Zoi. But I think she tolerated it otherwise.

Once I got ahold of the Japanese version and read online about the themes, yeah, it was sorta obvious, but at the same time, I loved those little themes. Was part of the silly anime charm for me, especially once I learned about the tale about the rabbit on the moon.

As for the names, lol, the dub was so bad with the writing, I think it just didn't occur to the writers or it did, so they quit saying "Princess Serena" and just went with "Princess".

You were a kid, and I was 16-17 when I first saw the dub, so I didn't think Moon was going evil, I just thought something weird was going on. I wasn't sure if it was Venus or something else, I just knew it wasn't Serena/Usagi.

Lol, yeah, Sailor Zoisite's hilarious, especially when you consider it's a guy in the Japanese version. All the fanart jokes I've seen about corsets and such, lol.

Although, he did crossdress twice in the manga, once as "Dr. Izuno" and another time as a random girl in the Casablanca Dreams mini story about Rei/Mars. Might've been the anime's nod to that with Sailor Zoi. *shrug*

True, although I thought that was your take on her hairstyle altogether. Either way, I like! And Naru/Molly looks gorgeous, too!
