Description ...in a hopeless place.

Love the Rhianna song, and also thought it was perfectly fitting for Kunztie and Zoisite, whom I've always admired had found love in such a dark and hopeless place such as the Dark Kingdom.

I finally got Paint Tool Sai back, so I decided to celebrate with a quickie drawing that ended up taking more time than I thought, as usual.

Thank you for all favs and comments!!

EDIT: Fixed transparency on Zoisite's hand.

You are right, it is admirable how they were able to find such a deep and meaningful love which was not supposed to be in the Dark Kingdom. But their love grew and they were so secure in each other that not even death could seperate them. That you can see perfectly here in theit faces.

eEEEEeeeeEEE!
omg this was always my favorite pairing. I remember watching Sailor Moon when I was a kid and being blown away by the fact that the villains weren't completely evil. They actually HAD motives and a back story and feelings and all that stuff! Zoicite especially. He was so catty and mean to Jadeite and Nefrite, but with Kunzite, he was a total kitten. Kunzite called out to Zoicite when he DIED! (Of course, they made Zoicite a GIRL in that version, but I wasn't ready for the yaoi version at that age. Baby steps)

I've had a soft spot for sympathetic villains ever since.

blobble In reply to Chibikan [2012-10-03 04:50:43 +0000 UTC]

I loved them as a straight couple so much. I remember being enthralled with the idea that villains could love and team up to be competant partners - I mean, I remember shows trying to stress how villains failed because they lacked teamwork due to their own inherent selfishness, and I remembered being amazed and also terrified at the concept of two villains in love and in a relationship- holy smokes they would be unbeatable!!

Especially Zoycite and Malachite, I always got the sense they were more equal partners (both in their relationship and in their duties), unlike Zoisite and Kunzite. In Zoi and Kun's case, Zoi would be willing to give his life for Kun in an instant, whereas it was a little ambiguous whether or not Kun would do the same. But Zoycite and Malachite - you could tell those two were pretty damn dedicated to their cause and to each other!

hmm... I saw something different between the Japanese and the English episode 33, where Venus hurts Kunzite with Crescent Beam. in the Japanese version, zoisite clearly gets worried about kunzite's injury yelling "Kunzite-sama!" in a worried voice. while in the English version, after kunzite has get hurt, female-zoisite says something "she broke the force field! how could she?" female-zoi got more worried about the forcefield than kunzite. and maybe I'm wrong, but in the English Sailor Moon malachite shows his feelings towards zoycite more than zoycite shows her owns towards malachite.

blobble In reply to mkn1990 [2012-10-03 16:28:08 +0000 UTC]

In that, I also completely agree. I found that in the English, Zoycite's motivations were more on her mission than on Malachite, and Malachite was more concerned about her ("Zoycite, you're trembling!", from episode 35). I think she was very career/goal oriented, while Zoisite wasn't in the original (everything he does is for Kunzite and not for Queen Beryl, and he gets jealous when Kunzite is more concerned about the mission and not paying any attention to him); however, as a couple, Malachite treated Zoycite more as an equal than Kunzite treated Zoisite. Zoycite knows it too- in the episode right before Nephrite's death, she is nuzzling up to Malachite and worrying about her mission, and calling him by his first name. However, when dishing out orders, she insists that others call him "Lord Malachite", which to me implies only she is considered his equal.Whereas in the original, all youmas and Zoisite included regarded Kunzite as "Kunzaito-sama" (though I bet in Zoi's case it eventually just became an affectionate pet name).

"he gets jealous when Kunzite is more concerned about the mission and not paying any attention to him." zoisite sounds like a spoiled brat, but still the characters of the dubbed sailor moon were stupid!

blobble In reply to mkn1990 [2012-10-03 17:23:04 +0000 UTC]

In many ways I think Zoi is; even the way he treats Nephrite reminds me of one of those annoying younger brothers who are always bothering you to either a) show you up or b) asking in a weird way for attention. I'm not sure how stupid the characters in the dub were on a whole - Neflyte was still pretty good and I think Zoycite got a big dose of career-womanism, Jedite was Jadeite and even in the original he wasn't overly too bright anyway! I think for me, Malachite was the one who got dulled down quite a bit, just due to his overexpressiveness and how they cut so many of Kun's original lines to make room for things like "Zoycite, you're trembling -". Eventually though, at some point, I felt like Kun also lost a lot of his touch after Zoi's death - he got a lot more rash and careless in his missions - so perhaps that's where they drew Malachite's personality from?

nephrite was totally screwed in the dubbed version! just thinking of his english voice... hrrr! and what the hell was those Valley Girl-accents? and yes, I liked more the original kunzite, who despite his coldness showed more emotions than his cheesy counterpart(in my opinion)
zoisite is a pretty complex character: he's cruel, vindictive, sneaky, dishonest, sadist and vain, but he isn't completely heartless, because he seems to love truly kunzite.

Zoisite is so interesting; it's one of the reasons why I love him so much. He's certainly no do-gooder, and he's got all of these terrible traits due to his villainy, but at the same time he loves Kunzite! Even in stereotypical seme/uke relationship, Zoisite defies those "uke" boundaries and I love it!

blobble In reply to mkn1990 [2012-10-04 11:55:25 +0000 UTC]

What I've found in most of the mangas I've read is that the ukes tend to be very innocent, girlish looking, of pure heart, warm, loving and gentle, and often require constant protection from the seme, and they can't seem to defend themselves from other threats or the seme himself. In Zoisite's case, he can be a doting uke for sure, but he is certainly not incapable of defending himself, nor do I think he would fall or trust Kunzite (in the Dark Kingdom) as readily as most stereotypical ukes are. Zoisite certainly isn't nearly as innocent and I like to think that he and Kunzite play an interesting psychological game in their relationship, kind of like a banter, whereas most ukes sort of just sit there and look up with innocent googly eyes. And while most ukes blush at affection and often spurn the seme's attempts at a relationship due to their own uncertainty, Zoisite clearly craves Kunzite's attention and is willing to pretty much do anything for it. I guess to sum it up, I find most ukes essentially damsel in distresses, but I like how in Zoisite's case, he is clearly a match on his own and doesn't always need Kunzite to save him.

hmm. zoisite and kunzite seem have a bit messed up psyches: zoi has a mild narcissim, loves to be in the center of the attention and cares more about his face than living creatures. kunzite on the other hand likes to keep everything in order, including his lover, but he starts loosing the touch into reality after zoisite's death and wishes suicide.

mkn1990 In reply to blobble [2012-10-05 14:44:01 +0000 UTC]

I think one reason, why zoisite is not a stereotypical uke, is because sailor moon didn't focus that much on yaoi. it was magical girl-anime. in real yaoi-animes and mangas ukes are stereotypical damsels in distress.

Hm, I don't know about that. Regardless of making it a yaoi anime or a shoujo-anime, it's hard to make a villain a damsel in distress.
