Description ...in a hopeless place.

Love the Rhianna song, and also thought it was perfectly fitting for Kunztie and Zoisite, whom I've always admired had found love in such a dark and hopeless place such as the Dark Kingdom.

I finally got Paint Tool Sai back, so I decided to celebrate with a quickie drawing that ended up taking more time than I thought, as usual.

Thank you for all favs and comments!!

EDIT: Fixed transparency on Zoisite's hand.

hmm. zoisite and kunzite seem have a bit messed up psyches: zoi has a mild narcissim, loves to be in the center of the attention and cares more about his face than living creatures. kunzite on the other hand likes to keep everything in order, including his lover, but he starts loosing the touch into reality after zoisite's death and wishes suicide.

They certainly do have very different psyches. I'm not sure about Zoisite loving his looks more than living creatures; I'm sure his reasons for killing Mamoru was not just /just/ because he messed up his face, though it probably helped seal the deal. When one sees Kunzite falling apart like that from his initial militarism to becoming so unglued, that's when you can see how much he truly needed/loved Zoisite.

I adore both! And you are so right on the dot on Malachite loving Zoycite more than Zoycite loving Malachite - I've always thought Zoycite and Kunzite would make a pretty badass strictly goal oriented couple and Malachite would make Zoisite feel pretty happy all the time XD.

I think too, a) Zoi/Kun has more fans which would in tern create greater chances of better fics, and b) Zoi/Kun tends to be more complex simply because it can be ambiguous whether or not Kun actually does return Zoisite's love - half of the Kun/Zoi stories I've read are all about that and Zoi trying to get Kun to be less emotionally constipated LOL!

Also, Mal/Zoy stories, at least for me, are really hard to write just because Malachite is already so cheesy and they've already reached a point in their relationship where it's clear they don't need to grow much anymore. I'm sure if they could, Malachite would've already married her long ago.

I can definitely see Zoisite with the gun for sure! But I can't see Kunzite being nearly as crazy as the Joker - or as psychologically abusive. That's why I see them more as Batman/Nightwing, just because Kunzite protects and teaches Zoisite, just like how Batman protects and teaches Nightwing <3.

maybe you're right, but I would love to hear zoisite singing Say that we're sweethearts again XD

zoisite:"a flat."*starts singing*"I never knew that our romance had ended until you poisoned my food. and I thought it was a lark when you kicked me in the car but now I think it was rude. I never knew that you and I were finished until that bottle hit my head. now I try to be aloof when you push me off the roof. I feel our romance is dead. it wouldn't have been so bad if you had told me that someone had taken my place. but no, no you didn't even scold me. you just tried to disfigure my face. you'll never know how this heart of mine is breaking. it seems so hopeless but then like you used to be so flantic, would you please put down that acid and say that we're sweethearts again."

And it added so much drama. When Zoycite died and Malachite was forced to work alongside Endymion, you could sense that his animosity was more than just jealousy. Of course, I can’t help thinking why did Malachite take Zoycite back to Beryl in the first place. Surely they both knew that Zoycite would be marked for death for the failure and deliberately disobeying Beryl. Malachite should have taken Zoycite out of there, to a hospital or a place where he could help him or even to Sailor Moon, begging for her to help Zoycite and defecting because it’s better than losing Zoycite.

blobble In reply to Chibikan [2012-10-03 16:36:14 +0000 UTC]

I have some hesitations about Malachite's competancy in the dub to be honest. His personality certainly isn't Kunzite's - for one, he definitely outwardly shows his emotions for Zoycite, something Kunzite has possibly -ambiguously-maybe-if-you squint-and-look-this-way done twice for Zoisite. Malachite put up such a fuss when Zoycite got wounded ("Zoycite you're trembling!") and by her deathbed he was extremely dramatic - ... "I am so sorry I failed you" ; "I will never [forget you], my love." - but I don't think he genuinely thought Beryl would kill her. Malachite in the dub doesn't seem the brightest to me and he seemed like he really thought Beryl was going to punish him instead of her, possibly leading up to his dramatic woe-begotten confession. Kunzite on the other hand pretty sure knew damn well that Beryl was going to kill Zoisite, but knew he had nothing he could do but possibly plead to his punishment instead (too loyal for his own good) - which could explain why he asked Zoisite to forgive him (twice) by his deathbed, but didn't exactly elaborate why he needed to be forgiven-because as a loyal leader of the Shitennou, it was what he had to do.

Either way, it’s a sad, dramatic moment. Either way, when Zoisite/Zoycite died, you could feel the heartbreak that Kunzite/Malachite was feeling. A lot of people criticize the dub for making Zoisite into Zoycite, making him into a female. Nevertheless, while I know that was a move made by homophobic assholes that should be strung-up by their toes, I also feel that it worked. Gay or straight, the emotion was still there, the drama was still there. In the end, all they changed was their orientation and in the manga, there was no romantic relationship there, it was that of brotherly love, Philos not Eros. What should matter is what the relationship brings to the story and in this case, it didn’t matter whether they were gay or straight because no matter which, the emotion was still there and it served to further the story which is what a relationship is meant to do. Gay or straight, Zoisite’s death drove Kunzite/Malachite in his quarter of the season. It’s because he blamed Endymion for his/her death that Kunzite/Malachite was unable to work with him. It was because of Zoisite/Zoycite’s death that Kunzite/Malachite refused to be healed because really, all he wanted was to be with the one he loved. Gay or straight, you could see that. I actually got the idea that during his quarter of the season, he had already figured out that the Sailor Senshi could not be beaten, or even if they could he was slowly losing the desire to live at all and was trying to set himself up to die either by Beryl’s hands or by Sailor Moon’s. That would explain his lack of competency in his part of the season because he was supposed to be the strongest of the Shitennou but now he can’t beat 5 teenaged girls? At least DiC didn’t try to pass them off as brothers or even cousins and yet leave in the obvious romantic stuff, *cough* Cloverway *cough*.

Yes, for all the missteps taken by DiC in their attempt to dumb down the Sailor Moon series, at least they kept the depth of these two. In fact, I think this would have been a good move for the original manga, as the relationship does give them more depth. These two deserve a trophy.

I love them so much that I actually had an idea for a fic where Zoisite actually lives. How this happens is that, during his romp as Sailor Moon, he decides he LIKES being the hero. He likes the accolades and people worshipping him for his good deeds. And he ends up defecting because he likes that feeling, thus he escapes the Dark Kingdom. Kunzite doesn’t like it at first, but eventually, after Beryl tries to make him fight his lover, decides to just defect with him^^.

I've been working on a ZoiKun fic myself, actually. It's one of those "How Zoisite met Kunzite" fics, where Zoisite becomes a member of the Shitennou and how their relationship grows. It's nothing special, but just my own idea of how they could've gotten together.

Maybe we could ficswap? : D

I'm just considering the fic right now. I have 2 others that I am currently working on. Neither is Zoi/Kun sadly but one, With Friends Like These, references the pairing a lot, but in that Malachite is Zoycite's widower. You'd have to read it to know what I'm talking about (it's in my gallery btw). I would love to read yours^^.

I took a peek at it today and it looked really epic!! I find it so admirable that authors can write such long stories - this KunZoi I'm currently working on spans maybe,11 chapters, and all the chapters are about 3-7 pages long. After I'me done this I'm pretty sure I won't be writing more any time soon...it's so hard!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chibikan In reply to blobble [2012-10-05 19:24:51 +0000 UTC]

I like to write long stories that span out for the minimum of at least a few years. I like action stories but I also like stories that just show people living their lives. Sometimes life provides all the drama you need, you don't need a crap load of action scenes taking place. It can just be people living life. I often wish they had taken that road with canon Sailor Moon because as much as I love the fights, the fights themselves seemed like filler (especially SuperS and Stars, seriously, they can't think to go after the person who just happens to always call Pegasus into battle or the ones saying HEY WE'RE SAILOR SENSHI, yeah that's filler). During episodes where they obviously didn't have anywhere plot based to go, they could have just had the characters living their lives, and develop them properly. You don't need a battle sequence every episode, if the battle is really just to meet status quo, it just brings the episode down.

blobble In reply to Chibikan [2012-10-06 05:04:52 +0000 UTC]

I agree! For me, an excellent story should have both. For me, since I don't have much time to read fanfiction lately, I like reading stories that aren't as long, and basically aren't filled with unnnecessary filler, which includes unncessary action, down time, angst or fluff. I prefer a balance of all of them, so that when I'm done the fic I feel like it was just right. That's my personal preference though - some people love long epics like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones but I'm not as big into them just due to the length alone .

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chibikan In reply to blobble [2012-10-06 05:32:10 +0000 UTC]

My stories have some filler, particularly this one, but not a lot. Most of the chapters are plot-based. Filler-chapters aren’t really pure filler either so much as developing the characters within the chapter. I have done a few more filler chapters than usual this week due to being ill and not having much strength to take the plot further. I didn’t want the story to sit though so I at least did like I said, character-building chapters. Serenity and her father in the Silver Millennium (in this story, Odin), Raye starting to come to her senses, Serena and Malachite’s future son with his partner, Raye and Jadeite’s future son Ares. Ami and Rubeus’ relationship. Molly under tutelage to be the next Queen of Asgard and Nephrite’s familial relationship with Jupiter (in Friends, he and Jupiter are half-siblings, fathered by Thor. Nephrite raised on the Moon). Character-building chapters do a lot more when the plot starts advancing again because now you have a reason to care about the characters involved. The good thing about an epic story as opposed to a movie or tv series though is, you can bookmark the chapter you last read and come back to it when you have time.

Tragic yes, but still a villain. There's a reason why he was set up as the jerk who killed Kunzite and then turning people into monsters to get their crystals; the writers didn't want us to sympathize too much. No, he didn't deserve Beryl killing him, but there was so much potential for him to be a good person that he wasted.

sailor moon has a range of different villains: there are 100% evil villains(rubeus, kaorinite, wiseman), "villains", who are not really evil but only brainwashed, cheated or mistreated(ali and en, ayakashi sisters, saphire), first bad villains, who then repented(nephrite, amazon trio) and tragic yet evil villains, whom you wished they had lived or at least repented(kunzite and zoisite)
