My first tutorial, EVER.And I'm so excited that it's done yet terrified because I surely made mistakes and typos and more mistakes
And note that english is not my native language so I can't express myself as fluently as I would in finnish.
Anyway~
This tutorial is about Paint Tool SAI basics that I could think of when I was constructing this. I most likely forgot to mention a million things~
Also this is kinda just tutorial practise; I will be making coloring and drawing tutorials later(And I really mean LATER) and they take so much more time and effort~
Still, hopefully this helps somebody~

You can download a 31 day trial version, but after that you'll have to buy it.

I know that the easy pattern can be done by clipping group. I'm completely self-taught with both photoshop and SAI so I've just developed my own ways.

helpppp plzz when u compared the pen tool from sai to the pen tool from photoshop, how did u make the pen tool smooth like that? cuz mine for some reason has hard edge and is not smooth at all and i dont know how to change it to make it smooth like urs o.O

Well, assuming you have a tablet, it takes a lot of practise. P: The faster you draw the line, the smoother it comes out.
Also I've found the pen settings that really work for me.
My pen settings at the moment are:
Density: 65-70
Quality: 4
Edge Hardness: 0
Min Density: 0
Max Dens Prs: 93%
Hard <-> Soft: 100

Hi! I'm using my tablet, but lines still arent so smooth...what should I do? Do I have wrong graphics tablet? It's "Pentagram O'PenWide". I tried just everything...can you help me?

Yes, you'll need a graphics tablet, I'm using a wacom GD at the moment. ^^
And yes the tablet is pressure sensitive, it works just like a normal pen, but digitally.

My lines are smooth like that when I'm using my tablet because it's pressure responsive. That might be why.

Oh how can you make the final picture floaty like that OuO. Do you go around the picture, use the select tool, and then crop the canvas that way?

I'm not quite sure if I got what you meant... P:
but you don't have to crop anything if you just leave the background transparent.
You can get a transparent background in Photoshop by saving the picture as an PNG file.

Hi!
You can color over the lineart by locking the pixels on the lineart layer. ^^
Just click the "opacity lock"/"preserve opacity" tab above the layer panel on the left, with the lineart layer selected of course.

My pen is like the photoshop one kind when I ends it doesn't end up like the red one with a nice point in the end, instead it ends up like the photoshop kind one.. Do I have to change some settings?

The reason can also be in the speed you draw; The faster you draw the line, the smoother it comes out. Also, shaky hands can make the line to look a bit rough.
The steps you can take in Paint Tool SAI itself are:
Adjust the max density to 100% or slightly under.
Set the hard<->soft to 100 or under.
And don't be afraid to try out different settings by yourself. (:

Awesome tutorial...I swear theres twice as many for photoshop -_- I just got Paint Sai a couple of weeks ago and so far so good but this definitely helps.
