Description Now that deviantART has allowed use of the search for all users of deviantART, it's best to use this plugin .

---

Just a little plugin I wrote for the Mycroft search bar that accompanies Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape. The plugin adds deviantART to the list of search engines in the Mycroft search bar. To install this plugin simply extract the two files in the ZIP file to the "searchplugins" folder in your browser's directory...

Example: "C:\Program Files\Firefox\searchplugins"

This is a rather outdated plugin, all this does is simply allows you to search deviantART through Google's image search engine. Thus, it's not as good as using deviantART's search feature but it's still pretty good.

This has been tested on Firefox 1.0PR, Firefox 1.0 and Netscape 7.2.
If you encounter any problems please note me.
If you use this plugin, please let me know what browser and version you're using.
You can find the deviantART version here .

err... no.
when we go to the site to download it even says 'Download Mozzila Firefox version (insert version here)'.

Mozzila is the creator of Firefox and Thunderbird, and those 2 are the separate ones.

Actually Mozilla is a browser, while Mozilla Foundation is the company that created Firefox, Thunderbird, and so on.

Mozilla Firefox just means its based on the Mozilla browser.

Dumb question ahead, but as a big fan of your previous firefox apps, I really want to get this to work...

I have this extracted in my firefox folder, but nowhere in my options can I find how to get it to work in firefox. Basically, in the folder with all the search things that came with firefox, there are a bunch of different ones like ebay, amazon, google, etc. But only google is activated. So, how can I activate other ones? (Mainly this.)

Again, sorry for the dumb question because the answer is probably horribly obvious. Thanks in advance for your help.

-Eddie

Click on the Google icon and it should show a drop down of all the search plugins that you've got installed on your computer.

theinsaneone In reply to shi-chan06 [2005-05-04 03:01:34 +0000 UTC]

No, it doesn't support IE5, the MyCroft search bar that this is a plug-in for only exists in Mozilla, Netscape and Firefox browsers. You'd have to upgrade browsers to use this.

hmmm.... im confused... ive put extracted it to the firefox search plugins folder but it isn't doing anything different than before.. anyone know why?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

bluespeed9 In reply to bentomlin [2005-02-15 18:32:21 +0000 UTC]

As long as you have extracted it into the correct folder and are using a version of Firefox that is supported (check the description above) you should be fine. Look in the upper right hand corner of your browser and you should see a search bar directly below your minimize/restore/close buttons. There should be an icon at the left of this bar with an arrow poiting down, click on the icon and in the drop down that will appear, you will see a deviantART-esque icon with a "G" in the middle of it. Select that icon and then type in what you want to search for and hit "enter".

Hope that helps.

I just wanted to let you know that I have linked to your site for the searcher. I am a member here but also a mod over at a p2p forum called unitethecows.com
The link to the page I have written on your searcher is right here:
[link] ostid=63341#post63341
Sorry, i only know how to do php, not html.
I also have put it in our downloads area with a link to your gallery and full credit to you.
Thanks, I have been using the member version for quite a while in Firefox1.0. I think I also used it in FF9, but am not sure. I have been using Firefox for quite a whil.

BTW, you gallery is great!!

Assuming you're running Netscape 7, Mozilla, or Firefox and you've unzipped the files into the "searchplugins" directory, then it should be installed. Check your search box at the upperright of your browser, there should be an icon there, click on that icon and a dropdown of search engines should come up. In this dropdown, you should find a deviantART search engine, that would be it.

I'm a subscriber and I think it's a fine idea...though because I am a subscriber, I don't really need it. However, I will try the other...the thing is that I think that some people would be happy to get more "hits' right? So it's a good thing....

Also, LOVE Firefox...and I could go on for days why....
