My first colouring tutorial, yay

Even though it's a hair colouring tutorial this is pretty much the same way I colour everything ^^

Anyway, I really hope the tutorial makes sense, but if you have any questions just ask me ^^

Good luck making Prismacolor magic

Thank you very much for your tutorial.  Even thought all you did is color in hair, the vital information you gave in here showed me that I was using my Prismacolor pencils wrong, or at least I shouldn't be using them like normal color pencils.  I've experimented with them in the way you explained in your tutorial and they really gave me a completely different result from what I usually got.  So thank you very much for your insightful tutorial.

This could be generally useful if I gat some of those prismicolor or copic markers.

I just love this tutorial, thank you so much for posting! I was wondering if you would mind telling what kind of paper you use with your pencils? I've tried so many different kinds and I can't seem to find a good one.

I love my prismacolors. This is a lovely picture

Small tip. For you any anyone else who reads, dont redraw over ur lines with a fine liner after you've colored over them with a pencil. It will eventually kill the pen. Instead try to gently scratch off the color pencil with a blunt pen tip or something similar. Prisma colors are like crayons; they're waxy, and destroy felt tip pens and textas.

It's really amazing on how you blend these colors so smoothly.
You are an outstanding artist! Keep up the great work!

I love the tutorial! But I have a question
When you start shading, does it blend perfectly with the base color? I looked at your drawing and everything blends in smoothly!

BlueUndine In reply to XoXNekoHime [2008-07-23 02:14:42 +0000 UTC]

I all depends on the strokes. If you start with hard strokes it might not blend very well

okay I'll keep on practicing!

Nice tutorial. Can you explain something to me really quick? I notice a lot of artists use the white dots. Is there any reason for that? I see it a lot with water color, prisma, and copic marker works... I was just curious. And is there any strategy towards placing them? Or is it just random?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BlueUndine In reply to SpiffyMai [2008-06-21 20:09:30 +0000 UTC]

It makes the drawings look shiny °3°
At least thats why I use them, hehe... And I'm totally random about placing them

I use prismacolored colored pencils and they never came out this smooth!

I'm extremely impressed!

I'll be sure to practice more with strokes instead of scribbles.

Wow! I've been around DA for a loong time and haven't found someone who used colored pencils the same way I used to. (Well, I still would if I had the time or desire to do art stuff again...) I thought I was the only crazy who inked, colored, then went over everything allllll over again!

Only my technique isn't as...masterful as yours!

I've never used that type of pen before htough...does the pencil clog them?

I think I'll watch you.

you know? i really love your style.
I haven't seen another style like it here on dA, or anywhere else tbh.
The bold lineart really makes me think of a stained glass window or something.
Previously, i have kinda shied away from lines that look too strong but now you've really made me want to experiment with line widths.
I abandoned pencils for a while in favour of digital colouring but you actually make me want to start using them again! <3
I have Faber Castells in place of Prismacolour but it's the artist that makes the drawing, not the pencils, amirite? ;D <3

btw, i think white gel pen is far too addictive too xD
