Description
I know this should be common sense, but apparently that's a lost concept these days. Hence, why I made this like message.People need to realize that it's not necessarily what you support that's the problem, but how you go about doing so.
So yeah, support whatever you want and however you want. Just employ some courtesy when doing so. That's all.Β

I agree completely, which is why I added at the bottom "Just do everyone else a favour and don't be a reprehensible fuckwit about it".

To be fair, some things like Trump or Neo-naziism aren't really what anyone should be supporting...

While I might agree with you, that is entirely subjective.

Freedom as common sense and logic depicts it.
Unfortunately, this would be a bannable offense on this site -> forum.nationstates.net/viewforβ¦
Most likely because common sense is considered blasphemous there.

NationStates is basically a "nation simulator" of sorts... only it's not really (it's somewhat confusing). When you sign up, you are given the opportunity to chose your user name (or name of your nation), decide what nation type you want it to be (communist, fascist, democratic, republic, etc., though usually only by name), and how you want to run it (actually, you receive daily issues [or two, or none, depending on your settings], of which you decide how the issues are handled.
Then there's the board index, which contains multiple forums: General Assembly (NS' version of the UN), Gameplay, Moderation, General, Forum 7, to name a few.
General is more or less the political center for the average NS user with topics ranging from free speech to gun control, religion, race, and so on, with more than one topic being a bit too batshit insane to remain up there.
The part were I made the negative remark about NationStates is that the mods there a a bit... picky on what is considered flaming, flamebating, trolling, etc. Let's put it this way: Feminism is considered to be a "protected class" on the site, and any attempt at criticizing them nets you harsh backlash and even a 3-day ban or worse. Political correctness is practically THE LAW there. Say what you want about DA, be thankful that it's not as morbid as NS. Well, most parts of it, anyways.
Sorry if my comment seems to be a bit aggressive, I just get frustrated when trying to describe the site I've been on for 5 years in any aspect that's changed for the worse in that time.

Anybody who tries to tell you that you are "free to support whatever you want" is either dishonest or just plain ignorant on what the supported cause does to the world.

I never said that, nor did I imply it, so I have no idea where you got that from. All I'm saying is that if you're going to support something, have a sense of consideration when doing so.

gdpr-16712963 In reply to brentcherry [2016-01-30 00:06:36 +0000 UTC]
The only problem I can see about this is that everyone has a different perception of what a "reprehensible fuckwit" is. However, it is likely that human conflict will never end regardless of what we say and do. This would mean that we're always going to have "reprehensible fuckwits." But in truth I doubt there is anyone who believes that they fall into this category since it's mostly subjective. Ultimately I can't point out anything particularly wrong with this post at all, except that people are going to continue to be "reprehensible fuckwits" whether they realize it or not, even if they do believe what you are saying here today about not being said fuckwit.
Humans are painfully complicated, it hurts my head to try to make sense of it all.

brentcherry In reply to gdpr-16712963 [2016-01-30 01:28:12 +0000 UTC]
You're absolutely right. What is considered to be a "reprehensible fuckwit" is entirely subjective to interpretation. You just have to trust that the individual has good judgement.

Well it's good to know that people are free to support Nazism, Jihadism and pedophilia by whatever means they want to. I have serious problems with this poster, because no, you are not free to support anything you want, nor should you be.
