Description
My second favorite dino now in color after a bunch of sketches.I think its a male Ceratosaurus due to its coloration with a green-blue patch along the back and the blue horns. Also, I gave him some ice-blue eyes, because I thought it would be a nice touch instead of the widely used brown or yellow for the eyes. The left hand may look a bit strange, because he curls some of his fingers inwards, so don't think I cut off the second and the third digit.
Thank you for looking at my Ceratosaurus and of course the

Thank you
It took me a while until I was able to draw a well proportioned Ceratosaurus. I don't just want to copy the stance of a reference skeletal, because there are so many opportunities for different poses, especially when species are interacting with each other.

I agree. You kinda have to do a lot of digging with each new species you draw. At least I feel I do.

It takes me a while, until I'm acquainted with the species' proportions and dimension, so I need to do many scraggly sketches until the animal starts looking beautiful.

Wow, this is so beautiful. The anatomy is perfect, and I love the blue eyes, and the blue markings along his back and the stripes on his throat. The background is really pretty too. How did you make such an awesome looking frame for it? I can tell you used brushes, but still, it's really amazing.

Thank you a lot, my dear friend.
The green background texture with the cracks is from Sirius-sdz 's texture pack no. 25, which look without any further manipulation really stunning. Around the edges and corners I used a brush, which looks like a fern. You can find them thereΒ fav.me/d7c67m and redheadstock has a lot more brushes in their gallery.

So jealous

Thank you much.
Some of the scales are made by brushes while others are painted by hand.
Hmm, jealous... sometimes I wish I could get close to these ones Β Β :

Hmm o3o
Ya know for someone who advocates the use of custom bushes so much I hardly know how to get the most out of them
Ooh those are pretty! I'm familiar with the latter one (Cute wittle tyrannos following their mother :3 ) but it's my first time seeing the former. Interesting color patterns!
I'd give a lot to be able to have the patience to do more than .... Well what I usually do.Β I was going to paste in the link of a recent "dinosaur" drawing I did, but nooooo DeviantART wants to paste in the full image and not just the LINK ITSELF ><
I don't know what's up with that... Any URL or shortened link will just bring in this huge image thumbnail - I can never get just the text link itself anymore ><

Whenever I work on a new digital drawing, then I'm often trying out different brushes until the result looks like that, what I've imagined. So, this is more of a try-and-error process instead of an artist's wisdom.
Oh, then I'm glad that I could share this piece, which I found rather by chance instead of searching for it. I don't only see it as a wonderful piece, but I see it as chance to learn from it.
Deviantart sometimes behaves very strange when you put links somewhere in, which led me to double checking the accessibility of the links I wish to shareΒ whenever I'm going to post one in a comment.

Thank you!
They are also my favorite part on the Ceratosaurus and I can well imagine them a bit glowing in the dark, when moonlight enters the eye's retina.

My favorite part on this Ceratosaurus are his ice-blue eyes, which might glow in the night, when the moonlight enters the eyes.

Thank you!
Yeah, I thought I accentuate the osteoderms along the Ceratosaurus' back as some sort of a design idea.

Thanks!
Since I use mostly red for the Allosaurs' crests I decided to give Cerato blue horns.Β

Thank you much!
When I started the sketch in traditional media first, I was fascinated by the idea to give the Ceratosaurus some blues and blacks, which would make them the perfect hunters of the night.

Its a valid point too, I mean with Allosaurus stalking the daytime hours, Ceratosaurus would make sense hunting at night to avoid bumping into the bigger guys, plus those blues would contrast well with moonlight.

A different niche might have been a potential strategy for Ceratosaurus to avoid the competition with Allosaurus and Torvosaurus. When I read the part, where you mentioned the moonlight I saw for a moment an imaginary picture of a Ceratosaurus at night rising its horn adorned head up into the night sky, while the moon accentuates the outline of the predator.
