Description
In 2269, The U.S.S. Ingram was commissioned as a test bed for all the latest and experimental technology, including the transwarp drive system, improved pule phasers powered by the warp core plasma relays, rapid fire torpedo launchers, long range photon torpedoes, enhanced harmonic deflector dish and the first and only Federation clocking device based off of the Romulan clocking device. Most of the main systems exceeded all expectations but the warp drive caused increasing delays and prevented field testing.
On Stardate 2269.32, the Ingram-Class was hijacked by operatives of the Romulan Empire. Starfleet launched the entire 7th Fleet in response. Over 50 vessels under the command of Rear Admiral Patrick Harriman who took command of the U.S.S. Kearsarge (NCC-973) combed all of Federation Space from Earth to Outpost 47 and back and came back empty handed. On Stardate: 2269.39, The U.S.S. Equinox (NCC-1299) encountered the U.S.S. Ingram near the Epslion-Cenaris system but was heavily damaged from the engagement. Two hours later the U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701), along with the U.S.S. Kearsarge, U.S.S. Alexandria and U.S.S. Rutherford engaged the hijacked ship when it rendezvoused with three Romulan war-birds. When Captain Kirk managed to use the prefix numbers to disable the Ingram, a warbird opened fired and in a single shoot, destroyed the U.S.S. Ingram.
All though the Ingram was a prototype, her destruction curtailed Starfleets development, the U.S.S. Enterprise would have to wait another three years before it got it's refit and the U.S.S. Excelsior wouldn't be devolved for another 15 years.
