Stardate 2338.2; With the success of the new Ambassador-Class dreadnoughts in production, Admiral John Kyle-the Head of Starfleet's Corps of Engineers approved the production of a new Long-Range Exploration Cruiser, the Renaissance-Class Starship. Aside from sharing many of the same architect details and technology with the Ambassador, Reliant and Apollo-Class, the Renaissance was designed purely for extended scientific missions in deep space rather then combat or boarder patrol. When the U.S.S. Renaissance (NX-12000) was completed at the Titan Shipyards at Jupiter and ready for her trial runs, command was given to Captain Kyle Riker.
