I was looking through my scraps and saw this very old portrait I did back in 2002. It made me smile, and laugh, because A) it's funny to see how I started and B) it looks so terribly bad. I remember, when I finished my first portrait, I was so proud of myself!I had this crazy idea of getting all my best portraits of each year and put them next to each other.
Hmm, I think I improved my skills just a little, don't you think?...
I had several periods
2002 - the 'I like to draw stuff from magazines' period
2003 - the 'Lord of the Rings rox my sox' period
2004 - the 'Johnny Depp is so cool' period
2005 - the 'random actors and actresses' period
2006 - the 'I think I really do like Final Fantasy' period
2007 - the 'and House kicks ass as well' period
So people, stop saying you won't become as good as I am these days. When I started, my stuff looked really bad, too!

But one question, i Self teach meself, ya? should i take lessons to get as good as you? Is that what you did O.o?

How did you get so amazing!? I want to know what you did to get from where you were in 2002 to where you are now. I'm pretty sure that your 2002 drawing is pretty much how I draw now soooo, yes. I really, really hope you respond *crosses finger*

Question: Did you have any formal art lessons or is this something self-taught over the years (practicing with magazine pics, ect., how to draw books), because your artwork is amazing and I am glad that I saw your art because it motivates me to want to do better.

I originally saw a final fantasy pic you did, a while ago, and started seeing them all over DA recently. I clicked on your profile and have been looking through, and it's amazing. I'm about to be 16, and going to an arts high school, and it makes me feel a little better to see your works and that you encourage those who like to draw so much. I think, out of your whole gallery, this is the most inspirational one. My hands are itching to draw. I just wanted to tell you that. By those who have commented, I can tell a lot of people look up to you. lol, anywayz, awesome job. Put some more up soon, ok?

It's weird to imagine that... just a few months ago... people started to see my (FF) drawings more and more. It wasn't until August 2007 the amount of devwatchers and comments and faves got overwhelmed at all of a sudden. I still don't know what to say or think about that 
Since July I got 350.000 more pageviews lol, and why? I guess people just like the way I support them I guess. I want to prove them there's absolutely nothing impossible when it comes to art.

I seen your FF drawing what seems like a year or two ago, and I wanted to be able to draw like that, but I never knew who made them. And then I found thtem again, and it was yours. I just thought it was really awesome that you not only try to help poeple with tatorials(sp!) but encourage them with word too. And I think your words get views because they're awesome too. Not just because of your kind words.
By the way, I read your tatorials and tried your method out on paper yesterday. I liked how the hair turned out but...well....I think I need to practice for a few more years like you, lol.

thanks for the inspiration...seeing your progress makes me feel better about my artistic level...i'm 30 and haven't done anything since highschool, tried writing but suffer from serious writers block, so decided to pick up the pencils again, my post shows my first works in fifteen years....thanks again, your work is awesome!!!

I never took classes. I think the best way to learn how to draw (or anything else for that matter) is by trying things
