Description
Here it is, as promised.Yes, I have a tablet. Yes, this should work with any version of Photoshop even though I used 7. Yes, I did it totally on the computer, but you can scan a sketch/ink and apply the same methods.
I think that covers everything...but probably not.

If you have line art that isn't seperate from the background, you can move the entire thing to a new layer and set the mode to "multiply." This will make it see-through and you can color beneath the line art.

Wow. This is awesome! I'm going to try my hardest to follow all the directions. I hope this will make my art look slightly better. All I need to work on is where to put the shadows. Thanks so much.
I have the tutorial on my desktop so I won't forget where it is. n__n.

Thanks, Celesse!
I find your style very, very good (and CLEANER than anything I can come up with) and it seemed that you read my mind when I asked myself (specifically while looking at the Ferris-Celesse razzberry pic) "how the heck did she do that??"
well, thanks! I'll try it out. I have Photoshop CS, though (industry standards, shmantards), but hopefully it'll still be cool.

Here's one. I think it's very nifty. Oh...if you have a tablet. But even if you scan in an ink job and follow her blurring techniques, it looks pretty nice.

...Wow...there are like.....hundreds of comments....and they're all the same anyways, awesum tutorial, it pretty much does round out the basics in photoshop. I pretty much do the same thing, to the exception that I don't have a pad
. So I have to scan my pics and then screw around with the lighting and contrast to make the lineart as clean and crisp as possible. There IS one thing though that would probably be important to mention, and that's the layer properties. You know the little options right under the "layer" tab on the layer window? Well, you can screw around with that, it makes a buncha neat effects
It's especially useful on the lineart layer. Preferably, I choose the "Multiply" option. Why? Well it's real practical in the sense that it makes the lineart "blend" with the layers under it, instead of "covering" them. But hey, that's just me. Feel free to try it out and see what works for you. Of course, there's also the possibility that you already knew about this option, and I look like a total idiot explaining it
,... anyways, just felt like pointing it out

Actually, yes, I know what every layer mode can accomplish. But I didn't mention this because at the end of the tutorial, I show how to color the line art...and it can't be achieved properly if the layer is set to multiply. Hence why I kept emphasizing not to use white to fix mistakes.

well I never argued the "no-use-of-white-to-erase" part, lol figured it out the hard way when I first started cel. ...But yeah, I suppose one COULD also color his lineart instead of referring to multiply...but You need perfectly clean lineart in order to achieve a decent result. Me? My lineart just plain sucks, which is why I hafta clean it up half the time The scanning process screws it all up...mostly cuz I save my lineart in jpeg...I could buy a pad...but that would only take out some complications and replace them with others
