Description
Here it is, as promised.Yes, I have a tablet. Yes, this should work with any version of Photoshop even though I used 7. Yes, I did it totally on the computer, but you can scan a sketch/ink and apply the same methods.
I think that covers everything...but probably not.

i shall be finding this verrrry useful!!!
Just one question.....when u draw and scan it in, pencil lines are often not even and crisp like your tablet drawn lines.......how do you "ink up" your lines so they go smooth and even? I had this problem the other day when i tried to colour up a picture i had drawn in my sketchbook, and then transferred into photoshop
thankies!!!!

You could try Image > Adjustments > Brightness & Contrast. Boost both of those until the line art looks crisp and clean.

I do color my pics a bit different than you do, I usually paint the base colors with the brush tool and then erase the parts I don't need. I guess everybody has their own way to cg. That's why is nice to read this kind of tutorials and learn from other artists.
It's such a great tut, celesse! Thanks for sharing your way to cel shade with us!

I have one question about it. Often you refered to using the pen tool. From what I could see, you had the brush too selected. Which one are you really using?

The brush tool. I forgot that's not called the "pen" tool.

Having just acquired Photoshop 7 myself, I'm still perplexed by that part of the tutorial. I just can't see how you managed those lines.
Just an incredibly steady hand? That lines look vector-like in their fluidity.

I guess it's just something I'm good at. D: I never realized how difficult it's actually supposed to be until people started questioning me on how I get the lines so smooth.

I think you need a separate tutorial just for that
I can't accomplish anything close to yours without the help of Flash, AND I've got a wacom Intuos. =/

I think she refers to the brush tool as pen tool. But the real pen tool is the one people use (including me) to make paths.

very very helpful! really did clear up my misty spots. OOo but one last question. coloring the eye... that is one feat i have yet to master. how do you decide how to do it? in the tutorial the eye goes from plain green to BAM colorful...!

celesse In reply to asahel [2004-08-14 03:04:04 +0000 UTC]
A lot of sections went from flat to BAM colorful.. But basically what I do is choose a darker color and fill in the pupil, then...shade it. @w@; Then another darker color to help accent certain parts, then white for the highlights. I'm not really sure how to explain it.
