Description A simple tutorial describing how to create some pretty interesting fractals. It's not too hard; the ultimate generalized synopsis is "fill in the reference triangle with other triangles."

Please be sure to show me what you make from this tutorial because I'd love to see it The possibilities of shape and color in these fractals is awesome!

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me!

Yeah, if you're using version D of apo7x, it may not save final xforms. You could always look at the raw file and change it to be compatible with earlier Apophysis versions or pull the values from it onto the FX when redoing it...but it is annoying.

Even though Xyrus has a patch for D, I strongly suggest using A or B for 32-bit; that issue isn't present and there aren't some native plugins that function differently than their .dll versions...

Oh. I thought it was a problem with win8 but now that I've reinstaled it, I realized it was really the 15XD version. Unfortunally, I really lost this one FX changes. But at least I've figured it out it was because of the D version thank to you and I won't install it so. Annoying is being nice. I lost two full flames already thanks to this. :\

But I will let you know of more Linear Triangle results I get. Now that I can save them.

This is one from your tutorial! [link]
I have to say, that it is a hard one to tweak, but very rewarding. Thank you for the great tutorial!

It is hard to tweak! It isn't impossible, nor does it prevent you from doing some crazy abstract stuff from modifying it in funky ways (which I absolutely love doing!).

Definitely some cool results there The second one is especially nice! I have added it to the sample results; if you'd prefer not to have it there, I'll take it down. Thank you for trying the tutorial out; I'm glad you like it

Although I don't post here any more, I just had to say how much I like this technique! (I check regularly for any new resources). I see great potential here - my first dabble: [link]

One simplification: entering the coordinates into the Triangle tab fields removes the problem of relative origins.

ChaosFissure In reply to IDeviant [2012-12-29 18:41:57 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad to hear that you like it! And woah, you made a square as well, that's much easier to frame than a triangle would be. Very nifty!

Ooh, I didn't realize that the triangle tab allowed direct coordinates -- I'll have to add that into the tutorial then because that seems muuuuch easier than what I have presented. Thanks for the tip!

IDeviant In reply to ChaosFissure [2012-12-30 16:39:46 +0000 UTC]

I'm still getting some good results! Planning to script a kind of 'fanning from the origin' version, then write another to swap pairs of coordinates. The ultimate would be one that picked random nodes and created a set of triangles around them, but my maths isn't up to that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChaosFissure In reply to IDeviant [2012-12-30 20:33:31 +0000 UTC]

It'd be easier to script that in another programming language and have it generate parameters, I'd imagine. I was debating writing one myself! XD

Triangulating the triangle.

Way to cool.

Will have to wait until I finish my move to try.

ChaosFissure In reply to one-tough-one [2012-12-29 18:52:32 +0000 UTC]

Yep, very interesting concepts! It's only a matter of time before someone implements Delaunay triangulation into it now!

Haha, this tutorial will still be around then! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

ChaosFissure In reply to Gerda1946 [2012-12-28 20:51:14 +0000 UTC]

Seems like all of the nodes you picked are the same as the ones in the tutorial. Did you try using a different placement of points than the ones I used beforehand?

I know I probably didn't explain how to set up the positions perfectly; if my explaination of how to set up the triangles is too vague or confusing, please let me know. The goal I had while making this isn't to get results identical to what I have, but share the mechanics of how you can make these yourself!

Gerda1946 In reply to ChaosFissure [2012-12-28 22:34:12 +0000 UTC]

I always start making a tutorial by following it exactly so I understand what is happening. English is not my mother language and sometimes it is difficult to understand what is meant.
Now I am working on it to make it my own!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChaosFissure In reply to Gerda1946 [2012-12-29 00:03:21 +0000 UTC]

There's nothing wrong with doing that! I personally deviate from tutorials whenever I can inject in my own artistic expression, and I wanted to illustrate how you could do so by 'picking your own points.'

As the image is identical to the one in the tutorial (minus the fxform), I wasn't sure if you had tried something else and it wasn't working due to a lack of clarity on my part!

I have no idea what will happen to it in the future It'd be cool to see it become a big thing, but I'm hoping it's just a useful resource that people can learn something from in the end

Gerda1946 In reply to ChaosFissure [2012-12-28 09:07:43 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Here was the "mistake" that T1 (the red one)was the base triangle in which I made the other triangles.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChaosFissure In reply to Gerda1946 [2012-12-28 17:49:53 +0000 UTC]

I am afraid I do not understand - you kept transform 1 as the default triangle instead of using it as one of the pieces?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gerda1946 In reply to ChaosFissure [2012-12-28 20:15:16 +0000 UTC]

Yep I did. I misunderstood the first part of the tut.
Later I tried it again and then I saw that T1 was a piece instead of the default triangle.
Maybe you can better say that you have to fill the white dotted triangle, that one that is there when you open a new fractal, should be filled according to your instructions.
I will upload my outcome of the tut. I used a final transform with linear, eyefish and cylinder.
