The clay is put in an oven at the baking instruction the package tells you. Then it becomes hard. You can temporarily make it hard by putting it in a freezer. It is good to put it in the freezer when you dont want to mess up the texture of something.

I think I'm going to make pancakes for my friends birthday.
Do you just follow the baking instructions on the clay package or do you have your own technique to baking?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chat-noir In reply to Xandi5anders [2009-01-23 02:51:39 +0000 UTC]
Follow the baking temperatures and times on the package of clay. If you don't want your clay items to stick to your baking surface or tray you can put a plain piece of white printer paper underneath. The paper won't burn and your charms won't get stuck to your cookie sheet/baking surface.

my syrup (no matter how many different ways or mixes of liquid clay or glaze), certainly does not look like that. or, it starts out looki ng that way and then evaporates and flattens. D:
this is where i ask you exactly what kind of translucent liquid clay are you using, and is the image in the end of your tut baked or unbaked?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chat-noir In reply to pleuvoiretstatique [2009-01-08 07:35:25 +0000 UTC]
The end result picture is unbaked but the syrup looks pretty much the same after baking. The liquid clay I used was the liquid fimo pictured in the supplies photo. I find that liquid fimo bakes the clearest out of the three brand of liquid clay I have used. (Kato, Sculpey, and Fimo)
Fimo is a little thinner than sculpey and bakes clearer. Which Sculpey is thicker and bakes with a more frosted quality. Kato is very very liquid and runs all over the place.
I recommend adding the syrup very last. Right before putting it in the oven. Or you could mix liquid clay with a small chunk of brown solid clay ti get a thicker consistency so it will not run or flatten out.
I hope this was able to help you a bit.

So you can just bake these in a regular oven right?
Anyway these are so cute :3

chat-noir In reply to vajrasana [2008-12-31 02:06:31 +0000 UTC]
Yes, polymer clay is a form of oven curable plastic. Before baking it is similar to playdough and after baking it becomes hard plastic.

Well the clay used in this tutorial (and all my tutorials) Is Polymer clay.
Polymer clay is an oven curable plastic and there are several different brands. Each brands have their own recommended baking times and temperatures. You can read my FAQ for more information: [link]

So... a normal clay can't be baked?
Thanx !
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chat-noir In reply to kaze9th [2008-12-06 19:50:43 +0000 UTC]
Well there are many different types of clay, ceramic, modeling, polymer, paper...etc.
Each type is made for a different purpose and has a different curing process.
Paper clay air dries, ceramic needs to be baked in a kiln, polymer needs to be baked in an oven, modeling clay is oil based and will never dry.
It all depends on what you are using.

Um do you know...How can I dry modeling clay T__T? Is it imposible?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chat-noir In reply to kaze9th [2008-12-11 18:31:12 +0000 UTC]
I don't think you can dry or cure modeling clay. Since it is oil based it stays wet and mold able.
Here is some more information that might help you: [link]
