Does that glaze dry fast? and where did you purchase it? (: Thanks

I bought this glaze from Home Depot, but you should be able to find it at any hardware store. (I think some craft stores carry it too.)
It has a similar dry-time to the Sculpey glazes, but it's a little thinner.

cute!! can you make sugar from soft pastel instead of charcoal or will regular white chalk work?
π: 0 β©: 1
chat-noir In reply to shalowater [2013-03-12 03:26:49 +0000 UTC]
White chalk can work too, it's best to use harder chalks and pastels. The softer it is the more likely it'll blend in with the glaze.

That is a very old tutorial and I am very sure that is a typo. I meant to say "puck like shape" like a hockey-puck. Sorry about that.

How do you keep the sugar on top after the glaze dries? Does all of it stay or does most of it flake off?
Also I made this: [link] with your tutorial!

chat-noir In reply to AzaraGore [2012-08-14 21:25:35 +0000 UTC]
The glaze I used was really thick, so after I get the initial powder to stick to the charm (after it dries of course) I put a second layer on in a stippling motion. This helps seal the powder on the charm and prevents it from flaking off. An easier way is to spray a clear glaze on top after the initial powder sticks to the first layer of glaze. (I would try this, but I don't have any spray sealers)
I still have charms made with this technique and none of the 'sugar' has come off yet.

Ah that's cool, I've been looking into finding where the spray glaze is sold. I've seen people use vanish, maybe that'll do? I dunno, I don't want to ruin any of my charms trying to experiment with something that might not work and would be a complete waste of money and time, lol.
I'll have to try the stippling though, it takes a lot of coats of the Sculpey gloss glaze before it gets thick and shinny how I like it. Maybe next time!
Thank you

I made some! [link] Thanks! But my chalk pastel didn't seem to stick that well to my glaze.. I think my glaze wasn't very sticky

It seems certain pastels work better than others. The one I used in this tutorial was very hard (drawing charcoals have different grades of softness) the harder the grade the less-likely it will blend into your glaze. For this charm I use a really thick glaze too, either the Sculpey gloss or Triple Thick brand gloss.

chat-noir In reply to angelielle [2012-01-18 05:04:12 +0000 UTC]
It has no scent, it might smell a little when wet but when dried there is absolutely no odor.

I know I'm not the Char-Noir, but I get my things at the craft/fabric store. I get the little screw in ones in the wood section and the long eyelet ones in the jewelry section. You can also find them for a really good price on Etsy as well.

You know, your tutorials are so enticing that they make me wanna try em out myself... considering that I'm a photographer and I have ABSOLUTELY no idea on sculpting or making things out of clay. It makes me wanna make it a hobby and make my own charms.
You're really good at this! This is like, the first time I've ever been interested in making things out of polymer clay.
