A small block costs about $3.95 - $5.20 so even with the conversion its a lot more expensive than the US it looks like
There is an Australian polymer clay called ozzle but I wouldn't recommend it from my experiences of it.
Das Pronto (i think) makes some too but only in a few colours and more expensive.
There is also Lumina polymer clay that air dries.

The wonderful tried to use chalk, here is what she had to say:
hmm... well I had a try, seems like when you go to put the final layer of glaze on the top, the chalk kind of dissolves so you lose that 'sugary' effect.
But maybe I just don't put the glaze on gently enough...
