depends where you get them... They're not very expensive, well at least not in the uk. It's like 87p for 50 or something

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. Just one question though. How do you get the charcoal to stay once you apply the 2nd coat of glaze? Even though
I wait a long time, the charcoal still comes off with the glaze and smears so it no longer looks powder but kind of like there is a translucent white layer on top.

Polymer clay is sold at craft stores like the Hobby Lobby, A C Moore, Michael's, and even Target brand stores carry small sets of polymer clay in their craft sections.
If you are still having trouble finding polymer clay in your area you can always purchase it on-line. Sites like ebay usually carry polymer clay as well.

This is a great tutorial!
But I'm having trouble sealing my charcoal. (The glaze seams to absorb the charcoal.) Is there a specific kind of charcoal or glaze/varnish I should use? Or could my charcoal just be too soft?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chat-noir In reply to snoday [2008-10-10 15:44:21 +0000 UTC]
I had this trouble too. For me the charcoal I was using was too soft. I scraped a white charcoal pencil instead of a stick of white charcoal and it turned out much better. I have also seen people use white glitter or craft sand.

is it okay if i dont put any gloss? and can i use nail polish?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chat-noir In reply to Raine24 [2008-09-01 03:26:53 +0000 UTC]
You don't have to use gloss for my other tutorials but for my jelly donut tute sealant is a must. If you don't use a gloss or sealant all your powder will come off. Clear acrylic medium, floor varnish, and sometimes nail polish can be used. Try a test item first to see how it goes.
Gloss is used to seal paint, add shine, or act as a protective finish.

yeah... its very helpful... just one thing... if you use real powdered sugar will it ruin my doughnut????
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chat-noir In reply to thereal-karu-chan [2008-08-22 01:12:24 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't recommend using real powdered sugar because it can rot. You could try baby powder instead if you don't have chalk pastel.
