Description For starters I apologize for the crappy quality of this. It had been resaved a few times and I've since lost the original PSD image. -___-

Furthermore I am aware there are other ways to do this. This is the way I prefer to do ^^ It literally takes like 10 seconds so its good enough for me.

Hope it helps someone

I have used this for almost all of my digital works. This tutorial is the easiest for me to follow and absolutely the most helpful. I've tried looking at others since then when I wasn't able to find this one and I really couldn't follow them. Thank you for making it so easy and basic. It's helped me countless times and I'll continue to use this in the future. Thank you for making this.

Somebody might have said this before but..
what about just going to edit and "Define
Brush Preset"? o.o

Checkered-Fedora In reply to akainashi [2009-11-07 17:21:37 +0000 UTC]

yeah nobody has mentioned that. Of course with that method there is still a matter of lining up the lineart where you want it to go. But I can say I've never even thought of using this method before. I'd have to test it a bit more to see how similar the final results are though

Well, I found your tutorial to see if I was the only one with a tutorial about making the line art on its own layer, yours is much older though (made mine yesterday, like some hours ago). I never thought of doing your way either o___o

The brush preset way just makes everything white and a lighter shade transparent^^ Though I have to admit yours is more solid as the color may fade through my way.

I have to tell you, I have downloaded several tutorials (various subjects). My son kept getting after me to look at them (every time i bitch about how hard it is to do something that I probably have a tutorial on). One thing is trying to clean up line art. That can be soooooo hard to do (my way).

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!
Your tutorial is fantasticly simple and complete.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

First off I wanna thank you. I've looked for tutorials for nearly a year now to help me ease into using CG programs for my art, but I hadn't been able to find any easier-than-beginner-level ones. So thanks for making one that covers it so simply, and with lots of pictures.

is the lineart drawen on photoshop

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Checkered-Fedora In reply to Kittyillustrations [2009-03-24 17:06:05 +0000 UTC]

the sample was mostly because I didn't have anything scanned in at the time, but the point of the tutorial is to be able to isolate lineart scanned in from traditional mediums

Hey! I still have my original copy of this! I still use it because I have a horrible memory so I have to keep referencing this! XD!!!

My copy is slightly and I emphasize SLIGHTLY better in quality if you want me to send a copy of MY version of this. I don't think it would be TOO much of a difference though.

I also still giggle a little every time I reread it.

StarlightSovereign [2009-03-23 09:43:19 +0000 UTC]

Wow... I always just Select>Color Range>click the lineart>LayerViaCopy But I bet this works better in some cases. Of course, these days I just ink on compy. I haven't had a scanner in a couple years now o_o I don't sketch much on paper these days anyway....

But colored lineart is fun. I can never make it look right... I think I need to cut loose more often lol. But Preserving Layer Transparency is definitely a fun trick. I use it every time I make text that I want to look cool... Rasterize, preserve transparency, then dodge/burn/use cool brushes all over it and you have really cool text...

Anyway, thanks for the tut! I'm saving it to mess with some of the points in it. I may not really need it for lineart since I only draw on compy these days, but I think it will remind me to use the masking trick a bit more often.
