I've been looking for a tutorial like this for months.
FINALLY, someone uploaded one.
Your swords are awesome. And the whole tutorial helps me understand more to make prop swords.
I'm trying to find a way to create my own sword for a short film I'm doing here in my Video Tech class.
Great work on the Tutorial by the way.

Oh my god. I was looking for something just like this... have been for several years, in fact. Is it possible to do something similar for other types of swords? I'm assuming so. I hate limiting to just one style with cosplay. For example, one year I want to make the Masamune, but the next I want to make Excalibur. I know it probably won't work for something like the Gunblade, but for swords that have a basis in the real world, it should be fine. What do you think?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chioky In reply to AerithReborn [2008-08-26 12:53:51 +0000 UTC]
learning how to make one type of sword will help you learn how to make other swords by adapting the skills you have learnt to new sword designs. Everytime you make a sword of a new design you learn new experience and with that you can make even more sword designs, is what I think

thats prity cool
but u mied up screws a little
when u said "flat head" there realy called "counter sunk"
and when u said "singel line" thats ment to be "flat head" (flat head = type of screw driver)
other than that this is cool

use zippo to wipe off the excessive adhesive from fabric and electrical tape...
that would solve the problem
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chioky In reply to Xianghua [2008-02-25 08:11:48 +0000 UTC]
I would be a little bit scared of doing that with a wooden sword XD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Xianghua In reply to chioky [2008-02-25 16:32:07 +0000 UTC]
actually use a tape base for the tsuka... it eliminates the need for paint...
which zippo fluid usually dulls paint or dissolves them
and since the fluid vaporize quickly with almost no remaining smell and sticky feel...
i use it to remove adhesive residue on scissors and other items as well
electrical tape typically shrink due to the initial pull to lift the tape from the coil...
the shrink leaves behind a trail of adhesive...
cloth tape are not as bad, but still shrinks a bit...
the good thing about ribbons is it's non sticky, the draw back is it slips from smooth surface easily...
so im currently thinking of using fine, light-color abrasive paper to act as a mock-up ray-skin
