Description
The Swordmaking Tutorial: Part 8 (Constructing the Sword)Have you ever asked yourself "How do I make a sword?"more pricesely a katana. Well If you have asked that question then I am here to help you answer that. This swordmaking Tutorial will cover everything you need to know about swordmaking. It has an attractive layout, easily readable discriptions, easier to understand discriptions and step by step pictures to know which process you are at. These swordmaking tutorials are aimed towards swordmakers and propmakers, however anybody is free to use them at their own leisure to try swordmaking.
*cue eerie music* congratulations, you have made it to the final stage of swordmaking. You have just painted all the parts of your katana but now you must put them together. First goes the tsuba along up from the handle then you attach the handles on either side of the tang. Then you form the hilt on the end of the handles once they are in place. Then you give the handle a final coat of paint and the sword becomes a complete katana. Just a note you can use woodglue also to just stick the handles onto the tang, or instead of using screws use wooden dowels. As mentioned how to do the handle wrapping or "tsuka" is not included in this tutorial, but in seperate tutorials instead. I hope you have followed every step successfully!! and enjoy ^^

so, regarding the contest, can my pic be composed by the charater in different poses and the sword design? (I feel more comfortable doing it that way rather than doing just one pose wit the sword) and can it be dual swords?

as long as the characters poses are all drawn in one single deviation yes thats okey, and yes the character can also use due swords

MUHAHAHAHAHAHA.
*cues dramatic music*
Finally. After three weeks of work, I have finished Haineko! Woot! 8D
I had the world's slowest drying gold spray paint. Took a week for the freaking tsuba to stop being sticky.
But I have finished it. So now, if I can scrounge up a camera, I shall post it!

Oy Chioky ever tried laminating the 2 parts of the handle to the blade's tang? this way you don't have to drill the handle and mess up the nice under coat that just went on. and the handle could be shaped as one unit.

chioky In reply to MrBrightside777 [2008-07-06 19:47:15 +0000 UTC]
Yes indeed the handle can be made in one single piece, but gosh does that take so long I dont have patience for that XD

oh i'm sorry I mean the Tsuba (not good with these names). You say that if the handles are in place it shouldn't move, but aren't the handles a seperate piece? I dont really see how they help the Tsuba stay in place.

chioky In reply to Aresy [2008-06-28 18:26:58 +0000 UTC]
go back through my tutorials to find how to make the "habaki" to stop that happening

question: How does the tang stay in place? What if it starts to slide down the sword? (I'm planning to make a sword, and i always wasn't sure about that) Thanks for this info, i like the fact that you dont need too many tools.

These look like really good tutorials - I intend on trying them out as soon as possible!
However, I have a question. How do you make the sheaths for your swords? I would imagine it's quite difficult :/
Really great work, keep it up!

chioky In reply to captain0marauding [2008-04-04 07:14:19 +0000 UTC]

He doesn't want me to make swords, even though he bought the wood for me. And he won't let me use a coping saw, but instead gave me a huge saw that is impossible to use O.o
