Ryan and Sophie went to the movie theatre to see Bolt, the story of a dog who actually thought the world of movie style action created by Hollywood was real. Both of them wondered if such a situation might be possible for a theoretical sentient dog or a real human being. Such a thing did not seem possible but they knew some people were masters of deception.

On the way out of the theatre, they saw thick smoke coming out of a restaurant at the other end of the shopping center. It could mean only one thing. The restaurant was on fire! Without really thinking about it, Ryan ran towards the restaurant to rescue as many people as possible. Sophie, also without really thinking about it, ran after him.

Ryan ran faster and faster leaving Sophie far behind. As he ran, he became smaller. Fur as white as paper grew out of his body. He started running on all fours which made him even faster. His limbs turned into paws and a back lightning bolt appeared on his body.

His nose turned black, his ears moved to the top of his head, and a red collar appeared around his neck. It was clear to Ryan that he had turned into a dog, more specifically Bolt. Knowledge of this did not even slow him down. He had to get to the fire.

If anything, Sophie was running slower. She became smaller and younger, her hair was red, and her eyes were brown. Her features became like those of a CGI character. Likewise Ryan, or Bolt, and the entire world around her gained CGI features.

Although Sophie, or Penny, could not keep up with Bolt, she did her best to get there as soon as possible. Neither of them considered calling the fire department. Fortunately, there were others in the area who did that. Bolt ran into the restaurant where Penny could no longer see him.

He searched for signs of people. Most of them had fled, but there was someone who had passed out due to the smoke before he could escape. He was feeling dizzy himself but he could not leave. He had a job to do.

Bolt entered the kitchen. No one appeared to be there but off to the side was a walk-in refrigerator. He could smell a human being. Jumping up and barking, he managed to reach the door knob and pull the door open. Inside the walk-in refrigerator was one of the cooks who had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

By this time Penny had arrived at the restaurant. In the distance, the sound of a fire engine could be heard.

"Bolt, where are you?" cried Penny. Bolt responded with a bark.

"Keep barking," said Penny as she entered the building.

Bolt continued to bark until Penny reached him. Together they were able to pull the cook to safety. They left the restaurant just as the fire department arrived. One of the fire fighters was able to give the cook CPR reviving him. The cook learned what had happened and thanked Bolt and Penny for their efforts.

Then the scene ended. The director called for the animal trainers to place Bolt in a cage while Penny was told to return to her trailer. Bolt was returned to Penny after the evidence of filming had been taken away. It could not possibly be real, could it?
