Description
Part one of two.I have lots of people ask me how to modify the standard brushable figures to make male ponies. I didn't feel like making a full-on, step by step tutorial so I've decided to do a basic outline in two parts and let y'all figure it out from there. If anyone has any questions or wants me to go into detail about something feel free to ask in the comments.
Oh, and I seem to have forgotten to mention that the above pony is Soarin', if anyone's wondering.

What type of clay do use? Can it be air dry? I don't have any experience with clay, but I want to try making male brushables.

Ignore my clay question. Btw what paint do you use for the cutie mark, eyes, etc?

I was thinking of doing more tutorials since I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on this one. What do you think I ought to do?

Though the tutorials you mentioned in other comments sound good too xD

Thanks for posting this! I just bought a fashion set of cadence and shining armor. I took out the tail but I need hemostats to take his Mohawk mane out.

Used this technique for the first time tonight in preparations for a Big Macintosh custom... definitely not as easy as it looks. x_x At least for someone that's never done sculpting on custom ponies aside from colt noses and fetlocks.

I use a toothpick or something similar and drag it along the clay. Maybe I need to make a sculpting tutorial.

This moght sound like a dumb question, but, you say bake the clay, that does mean with the pony does it? And are you using different clay for the muzzle? Yes or no?

Yep you bake the whole darn thing! I should write up a FAQ or something and post it. People are always flabbergasted when I tell then to put a pony in the oven!

Fascinating, that's quite a lot of sculptwork to do but it seems worth it if you can make it look like it was part of the original model. I'd be worried about making it look like these sculpted parts were clearly separate from the main figure

Will you make a tutorial if you ever do a Flim/Flam/Mr. Cake custom?

You mean like a skinny male pony tutorial? As soon as I figure out how to do it I'll put up a tutorial for it! Once I get ahold of the new brushable-sized Cadence and Luna I could do something with those. They look like a good body type to work with. I'd really like to do the Flim Flam bros.

Thanks! I noticed when you don't make them bigger the heads seem huge! And on the show males are sometimes significantly bigger than females.
