Edit: In order to use this tutorial in Apophysis 7X, you will first need to download ~Zueuk 's Old Variation Plugins , collected together and uploaded by ~morphapoph . I put a note in the introduction to clarify this.
--
By using this technique, you can make the star shapes as seen in Glow in the Dark , Celestial Vault , Stars and Stripes and Pentangle . This tutorial explains how to make them, as well as how to incorporate them into a simple Julia pattern. There are many other possibilities, however, so experimentation is important.
As with my previous tutorials, I've skipped a few of the intermediate stages, such as how to duplicate transforms, so the tutorial relies on a familiarity with the transform editor.
Tell me if you have any problems, and if you make anything with this tutorial, let me know so that I can include a link in the description. Enjoy!

As I said, I'm not a great communicator and I muffed the link for the plugins I uploaded. The plugin package I mentioned below is here:

The link in my former post is to Zueuk's title page here on DA.

I've uploaded a collection of plugins originally compiled and uploaded by Zueuk: [link]
The package contains the julia variation and others from the original Apophysis program coded by Mark Townsend and found in other Apo programs such as the 2.09 version mentioned above.
I've written to Peter (Zueuk) to let him know I've uploaded the package - it is not available at his "geocities" site any longer.
If he objects I will take the package down, however my understanding is that the plugins may be freely distributed in their original package. That package is what I've uploaded.
My personal opinion is that Peter would like you to use what he offers so your enjoyment of Apophysis would increase, however, I do not have a sure way to know how he feels.
Many apophysis users I think would like to know how zueuk is feeling as his absence is sorely missed by them. That I do feel I know is the truth.

Thank you so much for uploading those plugins, and for sending me the link! I downloaded them and tried them with Apophysis 7X, and the old julia variation works fine. This means that people will be able to try out my tutorial without having to change to the 2.09 version, which is the one that I use, so thanks again - that's really helpful. Do you mind if I put a link to the plugin pack in my tutorial's description?
Peter has always been my favourite fractal artist: his were the first fractal works that I saw, and were the ones that originally inspired me to try Apophysis for myself.

I admire Peter's talents as a programmer but as I like to say elsewhere I am not an artist (or critic of art). Yet I do find Peter's flames to be very appealing and of course, as an Apo user I wonder from time to time how he achieves the results he does.
Aside from wishing I had Peter's approval in advance, you are welcome to put the link to the plugin pack in your tut's description.
I thought after I uploaded the package I should have put a title on the image.
Maybe I can do that but if anyone would like to volunteer an image with a title for the package that would help me out a lot. (Folks could drop me a note.)
I know it's not a lot to do but I'm consumed by other obligations.
I hope ??: the plugin package helps 7X (and possibly other Apo version) users benefit from your tutorial.

Sadly, this does not work on Apophysis 7x15C, which I am going to guess because the Julia variation isn't native to the 7x series.
This is what I am getting: [link]

Damn, that's really annoying... I suppose I should have tested it on 7X first. I suppose people will have to use 2.09 like me if they want to use this, then. Thank you very much for pointing that out, though.

Welcomes ^^ Though this is a great find, loving how this looks when done as a grand julian

~morphapoph sent me a link to his Old Variation Plugins pack earlier, which contains the old Julia variation. If you download it, you should be able to use the tutorial with Apophysis 7X.

It seems another remake of the old Julia variation wasnt really the same variation and it is now fixed. Now I am wondering where I got it from if it wasnt that one o.o

I tried that but it wasn't doing much. I will try again.

That's ok, I hope you have fun with it. It won't work in the 7X version though, unfortunately, so if you want to try it, you'll have to use 2.09 or some other version with the 'julia' variation.

Actually, if you download ~morphapoph 's Old Variation Plugins pack, which contains the old Julia variation, you should be able to use the tutorial with 7X after all. Let me know if you decide to try the tutorial, and I'll put a link to your work in the description.

You're most welcome. You'll need to use Apophysis 2.09 though, as 7X seems not to have the 'julia' variation, which is slightly annoying...

Oh, that is annoying! I got a Julia variation in a flamepack for 7x but it seems to act in a different way than the tutorial states. I guess I'll have to look for a version of 2.09 and get plugins for it

~morphapoph just sent me a link to his Old Variation Plugins pack, containing the old julia variation. If you download that, you should be able to use the tutorial in 7X.
