Cool, very informative tutorial, nice work. I actually tend to do mine the other way around (i.e. pano first) but you are getting A grade results.
A tip for us without remote shutter releases a 2 second timer will also stop camera movement (I hope you don't mind me adding that).

an awesome tut, and very timely if i say so myself. here's a question concerning your tonemapping. would this be a situation where batch processing would be useful? is that even an option? i feel like that is an option, sort of like running scripts in ps or gimp. that way you could be sure that the images would be run through the process with the same settings. i myself have never tried any batch processing but i have been curious about it.
also, have you ever tried a 360 degree pano? on a lark i tried one today and it came out very crazy looking. just curious

Yes, batch processing is an options... you still have to Tone Map the first image to acquire the settings you want... but you don't have to save the image after tone mapping it... just the settings...
Then you can go into Photomatix's Batch Processing portion and tell it how many images per HDR, so on and so forth...
I prefer to do it manually for every one though just my preference...
And no, I have yet to try a 360 panoramic... I'd need to research it before attempting it
