Of course! Why wouldn't it?

That's not good. I'm glad you're better, though - fevers are nasty, nasty things. They don't make either your head or your body feel fantastic.

Hey, nice tutorial! I had a question about sound...

How do you get such good quality for your sound? My sound quality sounds okay when I play the file by pressing enter, but when I test it, the sound quality is horrible.

Does it have to do with the fact that I have Flash MX 2004, or is it something else?

Thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

creatureart In reply to DancingChaos [2008-09-04 19:20:15 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm I've noticed that the sound is fairly different when I preview the files to test. To check that's the actual quality of the final you might want to open up the .swf file in your internet browser to check.

Unfortunately that's something I've run accross too but I'm not any closer to understand what causes it. Possibly compression.

DancingChaos In reply to creatureart [2008-09-06 02:13:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the reply, it's just unfortunate that my sound sounds so fuzzy in the actual swf... My voice sounds so different from what people actually hear me as. I mean, they're going to start thinking I have a lisp or something...

Oh, well. I'll figure it out someday. Thanks again for the reply!

Sivaimp In reply to ??? [2008-08-05 14:35:27 +0000 UTC]

This was a lovely tutorial, in fact it was one of the best I've ever seen, and I collect them. It was fun to read and easy to understand.

I even tried to use it, but couldn't get past Step One.

You invited questions, so I would be more than grateful for any suggestions you can offer.

Before I say any more, I have a Mac. I also have Flash 4, so my menu items under File are slightly different from what you have here.

I have:

New
Open
Open as Library
Close
Save
Save As

Import (That's it. Import. No "Import to Library," nothing like that.)
Export Movie
Export Image

Publish Settings
Publish Preview
Publish

Page Setup
Print Margins
Print Preview
Print

Preferences
Assistant

Recent Files

Quit

Under the Libraries Menu item, it says "No Libraries Installed" even though I just MADE one.

There are no lessons OR samples for me to choose from, even though my version has both under Help.

Whenever I try to import ANY sound file, all I can get is this: "One or more files were not imported because there were problems reading them."

You'd think having a Mac would make adding sound easier, not hard/impossible, wouldn't you?

Thanks hugely for any help you can offer!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

creatureart In reply to Scarlet-Songstress [2008-05-20 22:23:52 +0000 UTC]

Ummm you'd have to make sure its a type of sound file Flash can work with. .mp3 and .wav should be safe but I can't remember off hand all the file types it supports.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Scarlet-Songstress In reply to creatureart [2008-05-21 03:57:22 +0000 UTC]

so a normal mp3 file should be fine to work with?

Does it matter what layer you put it on?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

creatureart In reply to skittleflink [2008-04-21 08:46:38 +0000 UTC]

Not particularly, but its good practice AND a good idea to keep it on a separate layer from your animation or other elements as otherwise you can get into other problems later on.

thank you so much for this tutorial! ^^ I have to do a flash project for my evil CTS teacher and this really helped alot!

I have another question though :/ When I play the movie , I have an intro animation that starts on its own and the sound plays when I start thee movie as well but then once it's done I used the action script to stop it [stop();] for the menu. I want the sound to continue even when it stops but I'm not sure how to do that... so if you can help me out I'd really be grateful

creatureart In reply to nanako9chan [2008-04-21 08:45:50 +0000 UTC]

What does CTS stand for? Computer Technology Studies?

Sorry its taken me a while to get back to you. I haven't been around DA properly for a wee while. I hope you have already found a solution but if not I hope the following proves helpful:

HMMMMM its been a while since I played around in flash but lets give this a go. If what I describe doesn't help try looking at some flash tutorials online; they should help you out a lot.

What you could do try is keeping that stop(); script that stops the sound before you hit the menu screen. Then at the menu screen, put a keyframe on a new layer at that point in the timeline. As in the steps 2-5 of this tutorial, put a sound clip on the keyframe.

The key part here is what you change the 'sync' option to. If you change it to 'event' I think the sound will only play as long as you are on that keyframe.

However if I am wrong, and it continues to play then copy the frame with the sound 'event' onto a new frame and change the sync to 'stop'. What this should do is stop the specified sound when the animation plays this frame.

Hope that helps. Let me know if it doesn't make sense.

yeah, that's what it stands for xD I had to go to the website to check out what it means... half of the other students didnt know either.

And don't worry about it It was posted awhile ago anyways so it's not your fault. I already submitted the project but thanks so much for the help anyways. I'm gonna play around with it for awhile, see what happens.

I have macromedia flash 2, and It doesn't say "Import to library" Too old, i guess?

creatureart In reply to Hinata-Sasuke-93 [2008-04-21 08:37:00 +0000 UTC]

Heya Hinata. Sorry that it took me over a month to get back to your comment.

I haven't worked in older versions of flash but it could very well be that flash 2 doesn't have the 'import to library' option. However it may have an import version elsewhere for you to use, although I haven't played around with it to know.

That mightn't be very helpful for you - sorry. I hope you are able to find out though.
