Description The third of but a series of aliens requested by   by yours truly!

Onto the facts!

Name: Slugger

Species: Kotoigbon

Homeworld: Ariohlymax (destroyed), Earth

Powers/abilities: Slugger is constantly excreting layers upon layers of disgusting, slippery slime from pores along his body, thus making him difficult to hold onto for those that have the stomach to attempt such a feat. He can also secrete sticky slimes and gels that allow him to ooze up walls and across vertical surfaces with ease.

Kotoigbons are boneless and can squeeze into tight spaces and crevices so long as they are as big as their grinding teeth.

Kotoigbons are capable of launching globs and  jets of sticky slime from their mouths, which they use to capture, reel in, and hang up prey like frozen meat to be eaten at their leisure.

Slugger has an impressive awareness of his surroundings, despite how poor his eyesight is. This is due to his ability to detect vibrations, changes in air pressure, and temperature with the feeler-like growths on his head.

Weaknesses: Due to his small stature - only a few inches smaller than Echo Echo - and his squishy body, Slugger isn't very combative.

Kotoigbons are essentially blind and are incapable of distinguishing color or shapes very well and rely on their other sense to aid them in defending themselves. If these should be hindered in anyway, they will be rendered completely blind.

Kotoigbons must stay moist and thus can't last more than a couple of minutes in arid environments.

Salt is an absolute death sentence to Slugger and is to be avoided at all costs.

Kotoigbons are a barely sentient species and are incapable of communication by any means besides a horrendous screech that is absolutely deafening at close range.

Etymology: The term "slugger" is defined as "a person who strikes hard, especially a boxer noted for the ability to deliver hard punches", which somewhat ironic since Slugger has no limbs to speak of and is incredibly heavy. It has been noted by Kevin that Slugger's balls of slime "pack a wallop when they hit the mark".

Trivia: The species' name literally translates to "sewer snail" in Yoruba.

The species' destroyed homeworld is named after the genus to which Banana slugs belong to.

Slugger's powers and abilities are similar to that of Slug King  from Hero: 108.

Ariohlymax, the previous homeworld of the Kotoigbons, was destroyed by the Highbreed during their xenocidal rampage across the universe before the war was brought to an end. The surviving members of the species were consequently relocated to Earth by the Plumbers and Galvans due to Earth's extensive network of sewage pipelines being similar to that of Ariohlymax. There currently is a colony of Kotoigbon located under most major cities on Earth - such as New York, Tokyo, and Beijing - as well as Bellwood and Undertown where they readily feast upon the endless supply of waste product and vermin that inhabit the sewers.

Kevin has described them multiple times as a "necessary factor of grossness".

If this boi has Ultimate form, he could be a freakin' Cone snail(Has Poisonous Harpoon tongue and gaining tough shell) alien

Did he?

Actually, no.

The Ultimate form for this one wouldn't change much - maybe a couple more feelers, slightly larger size, and different coloring, but nothing significant. It's what happens when they're accelerated at a certain speed that things get shifted into high gear. Basically, they become the slugs from Slugterra and are able to temporarily assume alternative forms when they use their sticky and elastic slime to shoot themselves at a certain speed, with the speed determining what specific form they get.

Have you also heard about Goops species having flavors? Like Ben’s tastes like lime and Albedos taste like raspberries?

I actually did not know that. Seems a little strange, given how Polymorphs are more like slime molds than gelatin cubes.

Yeah it’s on Goops page on the wiki. It makes me think that there’s some non-sentient version of his kind that get made into a popular sweet into Interstellar communities. I could see Ben trying it and saying “I can’t believe one of my transformations is so delicious!”

I got the thought that their might be an Anur system species that manages to shape shift using “masks” made from the skin of its predators so it can walk amongst them, but I’m having trouble with the concept. Would you be up for suggesting anything?

CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-06 23:09:36 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, you'd probably just want to go for a shape-shifting species that can turn into a copy of its victim by 'acquiring' their DNA (bonus points if the transformation is called 'Animorph'). The idea would be that the species needs a sample of another species' genetic code in order to mimic their form, at which point they either assimilate with the target species or eliminate/hide away the individual whose DNA they acquired. This kind of fits into a 'Bodysnatchers' theme, which is kind of consistent with the Anur System theme of old movie monsters.

Surprisingly, no. It actually never occurred to me how much the Yeerks and the Kotoigbons have in common up until now.

Interesting story, but I feel it was somewhat lacking. There wasn't as much interaction with Aftran as I think there could have been and the main plot of the story ended up being a very big let down, even if I have to commend the author for taking a different approach to the story.

What are your thoughts on the whole Rooters arc thing in Omniverse where an insane amount of canon was retconned? Like, the Plumbers Helpers not actually being hybrids?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-03 05:35:29 +0000 UTC]

I personally don't mind it, since it made everything a little more unique.

You have to remember, during the original series, it was always a toss-up as to what the source of all the weird stuff the Tennysons encountered would be. Granted, most of the time it was alien-related, what with Ben wielding the highly coveted Omnitrix, but there was always the chance that there would be something mystical as well, like the time they went to Mexico to stop the Forever Knights from retrieving a legendary sword and Four Arms had to essentially fight a Mayan demigod. Other times, it was just something was inherently from Earth, like the time the Tennysons encountered the Krakken.

But when UAF rolled around, literally everything was because of aliens. Oh, Gwen isn't actually able to use magic, she's just a hybrid of an alien species that can manipulate it? Kevin isn't a mutant human either, he's a very human-looking alien species from another planet? It more or less made the show bland, since literally everything could be explained by aliens - regular humans didn't make any fancy new technology they didn't steal from aliens, aliens were responsible for everything Earth had, etc. The slogan for the show at that point could quite literally have been "because aliens". The lore was basically all over the place.

Omniverse I feel gets a lot of flack for trying to make sense of everything that the show had garbled up at that point, such as trying to make sure that not everything on the show was related to aliens at that point, even if that was one of the main focuses of the show. By this point, Ben was still technically the only human member of his team, since Gwen was a hybrid, Kevin was an alien, and Rook was, of course, an alien. When the Rooters rolled around, this brought an opportunity to correct a lot of stuff that had made the show very confusing over the years and definitely raised a good points (also, the Plumbers Helpers are still technically hybrids, just not hybrids with parents of separate species) - for all his accomplishments and skill, Ben was an immature kid with the universe's most powerful weapon strapped to his wrist. If he hadn't had Grandpa Max and Gwen to set a good example for him, he likely could have destroyed the Earth, enslaved the galaxy, or even remade the entire universe in his own image and no-one could do a thing to stop him. Of course, that isn't to say that Servantis was completely right - after all, Azmuth is acknowledged as the smartest being within 5 galaxies, is certainly smarter than Servantis, and he trusts Ben with his creation.

And let's be honest, if Servantis ever got his hands on Ben, he would either hypnotize him to become his own personal weapon or to take the Omnitrix for himself. He's just that kind of character, hiding behind a questionable goal with a noble, valid point to meet his own, personal agenda.

Do you have any big headcanons about Undertown? The thing you mentioned about Sluggers species makes me curious to see if you have any more ideas on the alien city.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CreaturemasterProds In reply to ironlegionaire [2019-11-03 06:35:32 +0000 UTC]

I don't have many, but here are a few:

There are certain sectors of Undertown that are built to accommodate species that have specific, environmental requirements, like the Hot Spot magma chambers where the Kraaho live and the darker sections where Ectonurite's supposedly dwell (apparently, Ben and Rook were suppose to travel through this in one episode before it got scrapped). It's kind of like the city of Zootopia, but underground - there's a section that's kept really cold for aliens that can't survive outside of a freezing temperatures, a specially designed cavern chamber filled with chemicals for aliens that can only breath in certain atmospheres, a sector of the underground water systems dedicated to living for aquatic species, etc. Of course, if they need to go elsewhere, like the marketplace, they either have to tough it out or wear protective/environmental gear.

Waste management (garbage) is handled by a colony of Gourmands. Anything that gets thrown out that can't be recycled is eaten by them.

As stated, Undertown started out as an alien work force colony to repair the damage done during the To'kustar battle in Destroy All Aliens that grew over time to accommodate the growing population. Because of Earth's location however, other colonists came to start new lives, take advantage of business opportunities, or to just lay low - of course, this is assuming they don't catch the eye of the Plumbers or a certain Omnitrix wielder. It's a risky gambler for the latter of the three, to say the least.

All visiting colonists (before aliens were assimilated into human society) are required to go through an orientation about how they aren't suppose to interact with the native population, as per the Plumber code. Of course, not all aliens follow these rules, but most do. This is mostly because the alien colonists don't think very highly of humans in general and see no reason to bother them, but see no reason to do business with them if they somehow find them. Ever since the Incursean invasion however, relations between both have smoothed over somewhat, though it should be noted that some Undertown citizens take advantage of the fact that humans are, by comparison, dramatically unadvanced and naive - they could sell them something they could consider to be useless by telling them it's some form of advanced technology and the human would completely believe them.

As mentioned before, ever since the Incursean invasion, Undertown's economy has seen a large boom, largely because the human population is fascinated by them. With this sudden rise in social activity however, there are some strict rules that alien vendors are required to follow - namely to not sell human customers anything that might harm or kill them.

Ever since a human that had a bad reaction to Methanosian swamp tubers climbed into a Pyroxivore enclosure and tried to ride it like a bull, Undertown has made a tradition of have a Pyroxivore rodeo, where participants ride Pyroxivores and try to stay on the longest for a large cash prize (and 25% off any purchase at any of Pakmar's businesses . . . whichever one is standing at the moment, that is). The current record-holder is a Thep Khufan nicknamed "Ol' Lassohands" with a record of fifty-nine minutes and fifty-nine seconds. Any rodeo clowns used to protect particpants from angry Pyroxivores were originally dressed like humans before protest from the human population led to them being forced to change the outfit.

No-one in Undertown, not even the Gourmand, will buy or purchase corndogs. No-one knows why and no-one asks.

Many of the species that Ben transforms into live in Undertown, a lot more than are shown or implied, actually. Of the canonically known examples, The Worst, Walkatrout, Stinkfly, Ghostfreak, XLR8, Kickin Hawk, Buzzshock, Shocksquatch, and Humungousaur's species make Undertown their home, but there are a lot more than that. Tetramands, Incurseans, Methanosians, Galvan, Nanochips, Segmentasapiens, Conductoids, Petrosapiens and, of course, To'kustars and Celestialsapiens, however, are not on that list.

That all sounds really interesting. I got an interesting idea. What if a surprisingly large number of talpaedians (Armordrillo’s species) live in undertown due to playing a large part in the construction?

I don't think any aliens from the Andromeda galaxy live everywhere in the Milky Way, given the distance between the two of them. Granted, a few people have made the trip, but I doubt many species would see the point in traveling to another galaxy entirely, and specifically Earth, when there are so many other planets they could go to.

None that the creators haven't already stated.

I do have one headcanon regarding Kickin Hawk's species, specifically the tie-in they have with my story Once Upon a Tennyson. It's been stated that their royalty (or their king, anyway) resembles a peacock, which, coincidentally, is what Jinafire Long's Kickin Hawk form looks like. This form is able to fly/glide by using her enormous tail feathers like a hang glider, which led me to theorize that the reason the royalty are, well, royal is because they can actually fly, while other members of their species can't. Because they can fly, this leads their subjects to treat them like royalty, like how in many ancient cultures, rulers were believed to be chosen by gods.

I really like this guy, but I think the coolest thing about him is the usage of the Highbreed War as the reason for the loss of their home-world. Wars aren't forgotten about nearly as easily as the ones in UAF were, and the multitude of planets lost throughout their crusade should've been a key part of Season Three, but it was not. It was swiftly kicked under the rug without a care in the world in place of a weaker, disappointing version of Vilgax and FILLER! SO MUCH FILLER!! Sorry, Season Three of Alien Force bothers me a lot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CreaturemasterProds In reply to Danny-Buckle [2017-02-12 22:35:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I can understand the irritation there. Granted, there were a few of those fillers that were worth it - I'm talking about the episode that introduce everyone's favorite Appoplexian - and I'm pretty sure they touched upon the subject of the Highbreed war briefly in the episode "If All Else Fails" when a Highbreed fail safe is activated by a Highbreed soldier that was in stasis and thus wasn't aware that the war was over and believed Earth to be a lost battle.

For me, the most disappointing series was Ultimate Alien. I'll admit that the idea of the Ultimate forms was pretty cool - even if a few of them, one in particular, were a little bit disappointing - but for me that was when Ben 10 was at his lowest. I'll admit that his secret being revealed to the world was somewhat inevitable and definitely opened up so more doors further down the road, but the way they let fame rush to his head and make him act like an older version of his 10-year old self was definitely grating. On top of that, a vast majority of the first season was just filler episodes that didn't focus on much and it wasn't until towards the end of the series that they actually came up with a half decent plot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Danny-Buckle In reply to CreaturemasterProds [2017-02-13 16:20:04 +0000 UTC]

Those are only two fillers in a season with around twenty or so episodes, and as much as a love Rath, he alone is not worth the rest of the fillers. As for "If All Else Fails", that episode was still set on Earth, and as such didn't expand on the Highbreed War outside of the earth, which is really disappointing.

Oh yeah, UA was even worse.
