Description Well now, it certainly has been a while, now hasn't? I blame this guy. I was inspired by the Ben 10 Reboot episode "Omni-tricked" and while I was a little disappointed with how it chose to tell it's story, I am more than glad that Vilgax is still his old self (kinda). Plus, Ben finally got to turn into an Omnitrix version of Vilgax! Best episode yet!

That being said, this guy was nasty from the moment he came out of the splicing machine that I may or may not have in my basement, rampaging about and constantly smashing things. Not even the whip, chair, or cattle prod that I keep on hand to fight off volatile experiments was able to take him down. Eventually though, he wore himself out - and put himself into debt with all the equipment he now owes me, I might add - and I managed to talk some sense into him. Hopefully that does the trick.

Oh, well. Onto the facts!

Name: Tentacruel

Species: Chimera Sui Generis

Home World: Vilgaxia (formerly known as Murray)

Powers/abilities: Tentacruel possesses incredible physical strength, easily being able to take on multiple opponents at once without breaking a sweat. He is powerful enough to cleanly punch through concrete and bend steel, as well as lift enormous objects over his head and throw them a considerable distance.

Chimera Sui Generis are astonishingly durable, being capable of surviving blasts as big and powerful as a nuclear detonation nearly unscathed. Tentacruel has also demonstrated this by being hurled through multiple buildings, dropped from an incredibly high height, hammered into the ground, and thrown around like a ragdoll by Vilgax and still remain standing, albeit disoriented.

Chimera Sui Generis are surprisingly agile for their size.

Like the rest of his species, Tentacruel is able to transform into a large, squid-like form and back at will, so long as he is not weakened.

Weaknesses: Despite Tentacruel's incredible durability, there is a limit to how much damage he can take.

When in their squid-like state, they are nearly immobile on land and require constant moisture in order to breath. While the form grants them an accelerated healing factor and extra power when in the water, a Chimera Sui Generis 'true form' is more or less used as a last resort in an attempt to save themselves.

Etymology: Tentacruel's name is a portmanteau of the words 'tentacle' and 'cruel', referencing his squid-like appearance and Tentacruel's relation to Vilgax.

Trivia: Tentacruel shares his name with the Pokemon by the same name.

Tnetacruel shares some similarities with C'thulu, an ancient deity featured in many of H.P. Lovecraft's novels.

The species name comes from "Chimera", a mythical beast with parts from many different animals, and "Sui Generis", a Latin term that means "of its own kind/genus" or unique in its characteristics which roughly translates to "Chimera of its own kind".

The species' home world is named after it's current ruler, Vilgax.

Much to Ben's relief, the genetic donor for Tentacruel is Myaxx instead of Vilgax, like he had previously assumed and feared. Despite this, Ben still dislikes using Tentacruel due to the many similarities between him and his arch nemesis. Even so, he acknowledges that the form is useful and awesome to use.

This technically makes Myaxx Tentacruel's mother, or at least a relative, a fact that Ben isn't exactly comfortable with.

Tentacruel is routinely mistaken for Vilgax, which Ben has used to his advantage from time to time.

The surface of Vilgaxia is similar to that of Earth's ocean floor without water, giving it luminous, green mountain ranges, thousands of shallow 'tide pools', and a thick, orange atmosphere that obscures most of the planet from orbit. Vilgaxia is also home to numerous animalistic species who bare a resemblance to terrestrial sea life and is both renown and feared throughout the galaxy for it's current ruler and intergalactic criminal and warlord, Vilgax.

It has been rumored that Vilgax took the title of Ruler of Vilgaxia from the previous leader by force. Though details are obscure through lack of information and fear, it's rumored that Vilgax decapitated them in their palace in front of their family before murdering them as well and disposing of the bodies by feeding them to his pets  before taking control of Vilgaxia and renaming it in his honor. Despite this ruthlessness, it is implied that Vilgax took up the role in order to protect his home world from potential invaders , as he states their previous ruler was "weak" and incapable of protecting their planet.

Hmm not sure about this one. I like how the reboot gave us a chimera sui generis form but I don’t like it’s power set. An actual chimera sui generis is not that strong only having enhanced strength and durability. And it seemed kinda out of place making gax a part of the actual vilgax.

Yeah, I feel the same way about the Reboot. While I am glad that any time Vilgax appears it's taken more seriously than the rest of the series (as if the creators knew that if they didn't nail Vilgax, the show would fail), it's still a far cry from the original series or any of the follow ups; heck, even Omniverse did Vilgax better and he barely appeared despite being Ben's arch nemesis.

Regarding Gax, I don't like how he was a part of Vilgax either - doesn't make any sense, or at least none that I can think of - and while I can appreciate that we finally got a Chimera Sui Generis transformation, the fact that's he almost as powerful as Vilgax doesn't sit well with me. It's hard for me to explain why I don't like it, since I feel it's too overpowered for Ben to have, but at the same time we know he's gotten more powerful transformations (Way Big, Clockwork, Atomix, and Alien X, to name a few). I don't know, maybe it's just the fact that we don't have the rest of the roster available (the Halloween Trio, Upchuck, Eye Guy, Wildmutt, Ghostfreak, Ripjaws, Way Big, and maybe even Feedback and Arctiguana, since Ben seems to have had the Omnitrix for a while now).

I would've named him either Tyrantacle (Tie-Ran-Ti-Cool for pronunciation; Tyrant + Tentacle), or Inkrakenulous (Inn-Crack-Inn-You-Lus for pronunciation; Incredulous + Kraken).

Tyrantacle likely, since even if I used him, I'd still think his donor was Vilgax.

I like the name, though I prefer the current name, if for no other reason than the many Pokemon jokes that can be made with it.

That being said, while Bilgax being the genetic donor for the transformation would be interesting, I feel Myaxx would’ve jumped at the chance to leave any sort of mark on the Omnitrix project considering how much Azmuth mistreated her back then. This was, of course, before she wiped the Omnitrix free of Azmuth’s DNA signature and left her own in its place as an act of revenge.

Ben: (turns into Tentacruel) Just give up Nyancy. Tentacruel isn't Rath, and I don't think a kitten will do much against me.

Nyancy: (stares at him expressionlessly before pulling out a file) ...Just look at this Tennyson.

Ben: (scims through the file) The Nintendo Company wants to sue me for using the name of one of their Pokemon?! Come on, they stole Ditto from me and I didn't sue!

Nyancy: ...You were ten and the names of your aliens weren't public yet, so no-one cared. Besides, Ditto was created about a decade before you even got the watch. Do you even play Pokemon?

Ben: I watched the show. How about you?

Nyancy: (smiles) I'm glad you asked! I've played all the main games and the Mystery Dungeon side-games, watched most episodes of the show and collected the manga for about eight yea- (Rook comes from behind and handcuffs her) Hey! That wasn't fair!

Rook: It was practical and left minimal amounts of damage, so I believe that Magister Tennyson will be pleased with our methods.

Ben: Yeah, and now I can go Heatblast and burn this stupid file!

Rook: Actually Ben, that file is legitimate, and the company wants to sue for the name of Ditto as well.

Ben: Aw man! Seriously?!

Rook: Should I call Uncle Frank or Chadsmuth to assist us? Maybe they can make a deal with the company that pleases everyone?

Ben: Sure, whatever. (mutters under his breath) I need a freakin' smoothie.

That was fun. Anyway I do like the design, and the bit about Vilgax's conquest makes his actions in Ghost Town a bit less infuriating for me.

Why is it that I can actually see this happening? And for a second there - I'm being completely honest here - I thought this was going towards tentacle erotica (though I suppose one of my aliens is more suited for those kind of jokes).

Either way, that's one of the many reasons I made this guy. That episode always bugged me, especially since Vilgax is/was supposed to be this ruthless, intergalactic criminal whose very name made entire planets tremble with fear. In his backstory in the OS, some of his many accomplishments were the conquest of ten worlds, the destruction of five - such as Petropia before its resurrection - and the creation of a blackhole. He's regarded as "the most dangerous being in the universe" and is so terrifying that no organic life form is willing to work for him - with the exception of Psyphon - which forces him to use easily replaceable drones (even though he relied on a number of bounty hunters while he was recuperating).

I felt this way he could keep up his diabolical appearance while simultaneously being a benevolent ruler to his world, at least to those that are willing to serve him without question. The Chimera Sui Generis that doubt their leaders greatness tend to have a habit of disappearing without a trace, especially when said leader pays them a private and unexpected visit.

Danny-Buckle In reply to CreaturemasterProds [2017-08-10 05:58:45 +0000 UTC]

...I don't know how to react to that. I was just coming up with a fun, goofy scene, that's all. I will say that I can easily see Nyancy as a huge Anime and Manga fangirl though.

You just made me realise something. Vilgax has a universal presence, right? He's the biggest intergalactic threat throughout the entire franchise, being feared by all...and yet no-one tried to assassinate him while he was in a critical condition?! His drones are easily to dismantle, his ship was damaged (from what I remember at least, it's been years since I saw the first episode) and his body was in shambles. Call in some bounty hunters and shoot him! It would fail obviously, but the fact that it never happened bothers me so much now.

Anyway, I like this version of Vilgax's reign because it gives off an impression akin to the North Korean dictatorship, with a leader who'll create a false world for his people to feel at peace in, and a small visit to hell for those who don't like it, they receive that "Private and unexpected visit" you mentioned. It makes him both more monstrous and more human, as we all know a certain dictator who is exactly like that.

CreaturemasterProds In reply to Danny-Buckle [2017-08-10 07:32:45 +0000 UTC]

That's exactly why I imagined that. Outside of her 'criminal' activities (which only really became criminal when she hypnotized Rath and consequently made me laugh for a solid thirty minutes), I could definitely see Nyancy being an anime/manga fangirl. In fact, I might reference it in one of my stories.

I think the reason nobody attempted to do that was either because Vilgax's reputation is bad enough that no-one with any number of brain cells would even think of trying it or because nobody knew in the first place. Obviously, Vilgax hired some bounty hunters to kill Ben and bring the Omnitrix to him, but their bounty hunters and all they really care about is getting paid or not; one of those 'kill/steal now, ask questions never so long as money is involved' kind of deals. Besides, just because Vilgax was in critical condition doesn't mean he's out of the fight yet. For all we know, he could have been one of those villains who is fully capable of destroying a small army while half dead, missing all but one of their limbs, and looking like he's going die any minute. I mean, he managed to survive a nuclear explosion unscathed. It a point blank shot from an alien spacecraft with technology probably thousands of years more advanced to nearly kill him.

And yeah, that was kind of the version I was going for when I wrote that.

Danny-Buckle In reply to CreaturemasterProds [2017-08-11 20:04:24 +0000 UTC]

Oh, fair enough then.

True, though can't you imagine at least the Vreedle Brothers trying this? They would be killed about fifteen times over, but they'd still do it due to them being completely inept.

As for Vilgax's nearly unstoppable nature...yeah, I got nothing. The only thing that truly stopped him in the OS was being frozen (as seen in Ben 10'000 and Back With A Vengeance), and even then it took an explosion in space and him presumably floating around for a while to freeze him in BWAV, and being encased completely underwater in Ben 10'000 for that to work, so I don't know.

CreaturemasterProds In reply to Shadow-DJ [2017-08-06 21:11:08 +0000 UTC]

The vast majority of them don't seem to. The best picture we have of multiple members of the species are from the UAF (aka, the two series that made every other alien that was a member of an Omnitrix alien's species an exact duplicate) and they don't have those sack-like organs on their heads while Myaxx and Vilgax do. It's unknown if they're implants of sorts, biological organs, or something only a few Chimera Sui Generis have, so I didn't include them into Tentacruel's design. That, and to differentiate him from Vilgax.
