Description Wheeeeeee another tutorial This time on custom brushes in SAI! <3 I love custom brushes. It was getting so long that I tourniquet'd my custom brush settings off of it >.> But if anyone sees a brush exampled up there that you'd like, just ask and I'll copy the stats for you

ENGLISH SAI: [link]
Official Website: [link]

SAI costs approximately $56 USD (5250 Japanese Yen) for a license. Trials last 31 days. Check the exchange rates on your currency - they change daily so it can fluctuate up and down.

[link] <- Custom Brush Suppliment Tutorial. Has all my brush settings.

===========================================
NOTE: This deviation is a little outdated. You can now download "DarlingMionette's SAI Resources" at the bottom of the Custom Brush Supplement.

It is a .zip file of all my brush settings, textures, blank do-it-yourself resources, instructions for creating custom content, and associated start-sai.exe file that lets you register these files to your SAI without editing the .conf files manually :3 All in one convenient place. All of my current brush settings have been updated to match the files in the .zip file, and contain image examples for each. Be sure to read the README's! If you like it, then drop me a +fav on this deviation . Thanks!

You know in the brushes you made, how do you make that kinda splattered one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Musakcritiq In reply to bluekitti [2011-11-26 01:34:45 +0000 UTC]

The splatter option reminds me of the 'noise' effect for airbrush xD

Urm, I did this once but the new brush won't appear until I've read your tut and said click the -start sai. I couldn't find it anywhere.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to Shortnime [2011-11-28 18:54:31 +0000 UTC]

the new brushes won't appear on their own. the textures will. brushes have to be manually entered by copying the settings in the "mio's brush settings" folder. :3 A lot of people have the same problem XD

I want to make a brush from a file that I open and create it as a clipboard. How can I do that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to WinxThinkPink [2011-10-23 02:56:53 +0000 UTC]

in sai? you'd need to open the image you want to use for a brush (it must be black and white and not anti-aliased), save it as a .bmp (of the appropriate size) to the elemap folder, and then load sai using the start-sai.exe to register the new brush shape with the program. you can then pick it from the menu. it's not simple like photoshop XD

WinxThinkPink In reply to DarlingMionette [2011-10-23 03:53:37 +0000 UTC]

God damn it, it's not that simple...

I've noticed something that says, Stabilizer, when you double click on the brushes, do you know what this is?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to Gymnart [2011-10-19 14:57:29 +0000 UTC]

yes ^^ stabilizer: the larger the number, the slower the stroke.. it makes it much easier to have smooth lines during inking if you turn the stabilizer way way up.

I tried SAI recently and I'm wondering why my pen pressure does not work on it unlike in my PS. Thank you

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to Chinky-chan [2011-10-19 03:34:07 +0000 UTC]

it should. make sure you have the latest drivers for your tablet, check your sai settings to make sure it's set to pick up the pressure (it's in the Others->Options menu). if all else fails, unplug your tablet, restart your computer, then plug it back in.

I don't think it inherently does, but I've heard that some people have found a way to load it onto a mac. I'm not really knowledgeable in that area XD

Hey there, I was wondering... these are ONLY valid if using a tablet correct??.. (I do have one but I tried the mouse and it looked really strange) so in order to actually succeed in getting these brushes to look right, people need to use a tablet right??..

yes, of course, you can't pressure sensitivity with a mouse ^^

DarlingMionette In reply to InterWeBPanDa [2011-07-24 14:10:23 +0000 UTC]

the brushes won't automatically be loaded, just the textures :3 you have to create the brushes manually. Screenshots are in one of the folders of all the brush settings :3
