Description Wheeeeeee another tutorial This time on custom brushes in SAI! <3 I love custom brushes. It was getting so long that I tourniquet'd my custom brush settings off of it >.> But if anyone sees a brush exampled up there that you'd like, just ask and I'll copy the stats for you

ENGLISH SAI: [link]
Official Website: [link]

SAI costs approximately $56 USD (5250 Japanese Yen) for a license. Trials last 31 days. Check the exchange rates on your currency - they change daily so it can fluctuate up and down.

[link] <- Custom Brush Suppliment Tutorial. Has all my brush settings.

===========================================
NOTE: This deviation is a little outdated. You can now download "DarlingMionette's SAI Resources" at the bottom of the Custom Brush Supplement.

It is a .zip file of all my brush settings, textures, blank do-it-yourself resources, instructions for creating custom content, and associated start-sai.exe file that lets you register these files to your SAI without editing the .conf files manually :3 All in one convenient place. All of my current brush settings have been updated to match the files in the .zip file, and contain image examples for each. Be sure to read the README's! If you like it, then drop me a +fav on this deviation . Thanks!

DarlingMionette In reply to InterWeBPanDa [2011-07-28 15:46:07 +0000 UTC]

go to the sai brush menu.. duplicate one of your already existing brushes or create a new one (right click one of the empty squares and pick a brush type) then change all the settings to look just like the screenshots provided

Chalk Brush:

Paintbrush
Min Size 0
Density 44
BrushShape: Bar 1 em @ 100
BrushTexture: Watercolor 2 pt @ 84
Blending 25
Dilution 11
Persistence 53

will get you pretty close to a standard stick-chalk

umm okay im wondering, since you may know well, somehow on the step 2 part of the tutorial talks about what that part of sai does for you, is only shows "size" and half of "min size". im really concerned and i dunno whats wrong?oh and im on my laptop since my dad wont let me install Pain Tool SAI /:

do you mean the menu is cut off, or that you don't understand what those two settings mean? I'm a little confused as to your question, but i'd like to help if you can clarify

RainaRainStorm In reply to DarlingMionette [2011-07-09 20:48:01 +0000 UTC]

lol sorry about the typos in that last comment but what i am saying is yes the menu is cut off. Do you possibly know why its doing that?

thank you for replying! i REALLY appreciate it

DarlingMionette In reply to RainaRainStorm [2011-07-10 17:56:56 +0000 UTC]

this may be a stupid question, but what's your screen resolution? also, has it always appeared cut off, or just recently? Are there any other menu's that seem cut off? a screenshot would help XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RainaRainStorm In reply to DarlingMionette [2011-07-11 01:15:45 +0000 UTC]

thats not a stupid question! lol uhhh im not really familiar with screen resolutions but i checked in on my laptop and it says 1024 by 768 im not sure if thats it but it also says that its the highest 32 bit?

oh btw im using Dell Latitude 610

well, i downloaded this program recently and i dunno if it was like this before because ive never had it.

lol i dont know how to send a screenshot but i would

thank you thank you thank you verry much for helping!!!

DarlingMionette In reply to RainaRainStorm [2011-07-11 15:37:49 +0000 UTC]

hrm. it's -probably- not your screen resolution then.. i used to run sai at that res, and it worked fine. I would suggest reinstalling the program, and rebooting the computer to see if that fixes the issue - it's possible one of the files needed for sai was corrupt and that's why the menu won't show properly. Also, try hiding the menu (there's an option for it under Window->Hide Command Pannels) and then open it back up, it may be a simple rendering glitch.

Oh and yeah tried this out. I didn't come so far: when looking at the "(simple circle)" bar, it was unuseable. It was grey and wouldn't react when clicked on :c

ah so then you have a hacked illegal copy XD I can't guarantee you it works like it should then - if you followed the instructions, all the options should be available to you

wonderful tutorial, but where do i save the .zip file? and will these work on a trial version of sai?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to atari-jr [2011-05-01 23:43:38 +0000 UTC]

you can save the zip file anywhere, you just gotta move the files within the (already named!) folders to their correct locations in the sai directory :3 it -should- work with trial sai, but I haven't tried it, so it's a best guess

gotta be more specific, recognizing what?

The brushes aren't showing~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to Rubicon-art [2011-04-22 23:38:25 +0000 UTC]

well, no, they wouldn't. if you'd read the instructions you'd know that you have to enter the brushes manually through the brush menu in the program.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rubicon-art In reply to DarlingMionette [2011-04-23 01:03:07 +0000 UTC]

The elemap etc, all the files, I manually added to my Sai files. They aren't showing in the drop down menu...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to Rubicon-art [2011-04-23 01:16:41 +0000 UTC]

check to see how many files you have in your folders, sai can only take up to 99 and then it ignores any further files , also make sure you ran the start-sai.exe from within the main sai directory to register the new files
